It does this by automatically maximizing or docking windows when you move them to the top or sides of the screen. Plus, as you resize windows and move your mouse pointer towards the screen edges, Windows 7 will resize the windows for you. You’ll notice these things happening by the appearance of an outlined rectangle during the move or resize operations.

While some people like this new feature, others would rather not have windows growing by themselves and want more precise control over window sizes. Thus it can be disabled:…

Google Chrome – Merge Your Browser Windows and Popups Together

25 Sep

Merge all Google Chrome windows together into one with multiple tabs, manually or automatically, via JoinTabs.

While browsing the web in Google Chrome for a long period of time, you’re likely to create multiple tabs to browse several sites simultaneously. You may even create new Google Chrome windows, or websites may automatically open in new windows.

If you have several windows open simultaneously and would like to clean up your display by merging everything into one Google Chrome window containing multiple tabs, you can do so by dragging and dropping the tabs onto one main window. However, if you have several windows open with many tabs in each window, this dragging and dropping can be a chore. With the “JoinTabs” extension you can perform this merge with just one click. Plus, you can have JoinTabs automatically merge popups into one window if you’re tired of sites opening up new windows….

Windows Internet Explorer 9 – Stop Showing the New Tab Page!

02 Sep

When creating a new tab inside Internet Explorer 9, show a blank page instead of the default New Tab page that lists your most popular sites.

When you open a new tab inside Windows Internet Explorer 9 such as by pressing CTRL + T or clicking the “New Tab” icon that appears when you hover to the right of your pre-existing tabs, you are shown a page displaying your most visited web sites. This “New Tab” page also lets you re-open closed tabs or reopen the last session (if applicable), initiate InPrivate Browsing, and access a Suggested Sites feature.

While clicking the “Hide sites” link near the bottom of this page hides your list of popular sites, what if you want to do away with this page altogether and just see a blank space appear whenever you create a new tab?…

Windows Live Photo Gallery 2011 – Interactively Straighten a Skewed Photo

08 Aug

Interactively straighten or un-straighten a photograph via Windows Live Photo Gallery 2011

Windows Live Photo Gallery 2011 can quickly attempt to straighten a photograph by pressing one button (“Edit” tab of the Ribbon, “Quick Adjustments” section, “Straighten” button), useful if you don’t perfectly line up subjects in your digital camera’s viewfinder or LCD screen. However, this one-click tool may not always work as desired. For example, you may have a photograph with multiple conflicting elements – if one element appears straight, the others may appear crooked, and you may want a particular element straightened and Photo Gallery 2011 has other ideas.

Alternatively, for artistic reasons you may want to “un-straighten” a perfectly straightened photograph to make elements appear crooked for visual effect. For example, a city skyline photograph may be adjusted by skewing the horizon line to the left or right. In some cases, such as if the photo was taken from the top of a large building, this can make the photo appear as if it was taken from the air by helicopter – some may call this taking an artistic license :)…
