Samsung releases WB35F, WB50F and WB1100F CCD Wi-Fi compacts

CES 2014: Samsung has used CES as an opportunity to refresh its compact line-up, launching the WB1100F superzoom, alongside the WB50F and WB35F CCD-based compacts. All three offer Wi-Fi with NFC, as well as 720p video. The WB35F and 50F are both based around 12x, 24-288mm equiv, F3.1-6.3 lenses, with the more expensive 50F offering a larger, higher-res rear screen. The WB1100F has a 35x, 25-875mm equiv zoom.

Samsung launches leatherette-coated WB350F Wi-Fi compact

CES 2014: Samsung has unveiled the WB350F – its latest style-concious, Wi-Fi connected compact. The leatherette-clad WB350F features a 21x, 23-483mm equivalent, F2.8-5.9 zoom lens, in front of a 16.3MP BSI CMOS sensor. It features a touch-sensitive 3″ hVGA (460k dot) LCD. It also features NFC, allowing quick connection and ‘Tag & Go’ image transfer with compatible smart devices.

Samsung launches dual-grip, 60x WB2200F superzoom with Wi-Fi

CES 2014: Samsung has announced the WB2200F, a 60x superzoom camera with dual grip design. It offers a 20-1200mm equivalent, F2.8-5.9 zoom lens in front of a 1/2.3″-type 16MP BSI CMOS sensor. Beyond that, specifications are sketchy – it’s Wi-Fi equipped, with NFC to make pairing and sharing with compatible smart devices simpler. It also has a 3″, hVGA (usually 460k dot) LCD panel. The company promises long battery life and an electronic viewfinder, but in both cases gives no real detail.

Samsung NX30 adds tilting EVF, improved display, more Wi-Fi features

Samsung’s latest flagship mirrorless camera has arrived, in the form of the NX30. It borrows the 20 megapixel sensor and Hybrid AF system from the NX300, but has a more traditional design. The standout feature is the camera’s XGA electronic viewfinder, which can be pulled away from the camera and tilted up as much as 80 degrees. The fully articulated 3-inch AMOLED display is 70% brighter than the screen on the NX20. Toshiba ups capacity and speed of its Wi-Fi SD card

Toshiba expanded its lineup up of Wi-Fi enabled SD memory cards with a high capacity 32GB FlashAir II model. The new 32GB card boasts Class 10 speed compared to the previous model’s Class 6 speed. The FlashAir II card features a new ‘Internet pass thru mode’ that enables users to access the card and Internet simultaneously – enabling the ability to upload images in real-time. Learn more

Nikon D5300 adds pixels, Wi-Fi, and GPS while leaving AA filter behind

Nikon has announced its new D5300 midrange DSLR which, as you might have gathered, is the follow-up to the D5200. New features include the omission of an AA filter from its 24MP CMOS sensor, a larger 3.2in articulated LCD and also a slightly larger optical viewfinder, 1080/60p video, and built-in Wi-Fi and GPS. Nikon claims that the D5300’s Expeed 4 processor improves performance (allowing for 5 fps burst shooting) and photo quality, while reducing power consumption. Wi-Fi can expedite workflow by allowing you to transfer image files remotely while on location and also negate the need for card readers or cables. It’s easy to forget that your camera doesn’t have to have Wi-Fi built-in to benefit from the advantages of connectivity. In this article, we pit Eye-Fi’s 16GB Pro X2 Wi-Fi SDHC card against the cheaper, higher-capacity Transcend 32GB Wi-Fi card and see which comes out on top.

Sony introduces NEX-5T Wi-Fi and NFC enabled mirrorless camera

Sony has announced the Sony Alpha NEX-5T, boasting all the same features that the Alpha NEX-5R offered with the addition of NFC. Smartphones and tablets with the technology will be able to pair easily with the NEX-5T to take advantage of its wireless connectivity. With a 16.1 megapixel APS-C sized sensor, Wi-Fi connectivity and a 3.0-inch flip-up touch LCD, the NEX-5T is introduced at $ 50 less than its predecessor’s initial MSRP. Lytro unlocks Wi-Fi with firmware update, introduces iOS app

Lytro has released a firmware update that enables the Wi-Fi chips inside its 8GB and 16GB light field cameras. The San Fransisco-based company has also announced a new iOS companion app called Lytro Mobile, which allows you to browse images from the camera on an iOS smartphone or iPod Touch. Replicating some of the functionality of Lytro’s existing desktop app, the mobile app allows you to refocus and change the perspective of your images and share the ‘living pictures’ via social media. Click through for more details.
