Sony NEX 5N Video Sample – Night Time (high iso / low light)

03 Feb

Went for a quick stroll in the neighbourhood to test out the night time / low light performance. One thing i noticed is that the LCD is much more grainy than the actual video, which is incredibly clean at iso1600 and even 3200. I didnt have to go to iso3200, but with a slower lens, it would have been no problem to do so. I also have a BW circ. polariser on front, which takes back about 1.5 stops. Settings: – 1080p30, 24mbps – 1/60, iso800-1600, 24mm, f1.4, 0ev, BW Circ. Polarizer (-1.5 stop) – Sony NEX-5N, ECM-SST1, Nikkor 24/1.4G, cheapo tripod

Ultimate Nikon D5100 HD video test review, Fast moving object.

01 Feb

Filmed at 10mm. A boat in waves, lots of spray, pitching rolling, movement, very intricate detailed waves flying past. Can the camera cope? Watch the video to see. The lens was a Tamron 10-24mm with a polarising filter fitted, the lens was around 10mm when filming, to get an ultra wide view of the boat. The spray and the boat are fast moving and complex, great test to see how the camera copes with moving objects. The new Nikon d5100 has a 16.2 MP CMOS sensor much like that in the D7000, 1080p movie capability and a side-articulated 921K dot 3.0″ tilt/swivel LCD. The D5100 also becomes the first Nikon DSLR to be able to apply special processing filters to stills and video. The company has also introduced the ME-1 external microphone. The camera will be available from this month as a kit with the 18-55mm VR lens for 9.95 while the microphone will retail at 9.99.

Nikon Zoom-Nikkor 43-86mm 1:3.5 Ai lens – Video Tests

31 Jan

In this episode I do a short set of video samples using the Nikon Zoom-Nikkor 43-86mm 1:3.5 Ai lens. This may be an old lens but it can still shoot some great video when coupled with a modern DSLR! Nikon 43-86mm 1:3.5 Ai Zoom-Nikkor lens: amzn.to This lens will work great on DX Nikon DSLRs for video or photos in Manual mode (‘M’ on the dial) only with Live view turned on. -soon I will post a video with a trick I found out to get them to work without Live View, comment if you need to know now! Please check your compatibility first! For Canon or other DSLRs, or micro four thirds cameras please look into lens adapters, they are a great option to get some inexpensive older Nikon glass on whatever you shoot with. Using Photography and Video to Tell Stories that Need to Be Told

30 Jan

This morning I came across a short film that I just had to share with the dPS community. It is the story of Jill Brzezinski-Conley who shares her story of life, love and the challenges thrown her way through breast cancer.

Nothing I can really say adequately expresses what this video presents so… please watch and consider sharing this video.

‘The Light That Shines’ a story for all from InBedWithSue.com on Vimeo.

I guess to bring it back to what we do here at dPS – this is a beautiful example of one photographer (Sue Bryce) and one videographer Hailey Bartholomew using their gifts and talents so positively to impact the life of another person and to tell a story that I suspect will touch and hopefully inspire many.

Read more at Hailey’s blog and on Sue’s site and connect with Jill here on Facebook.
