I just got my 7D today and wanted to test it out to see what kind of quality of video it took, MAN was I impressed…this is insanity, SLRs aren’t supposed to take video better then your 00 pro video camcorder! 🙂 It was taken with a 40mm Prime lens out side on my back deck of my dog Molly in 1080p. I tested the focus, sharpness at wide open aperture and at 200mm, bokeh, focus accuracy and VRII. It’s an exceptional lens with great sharpness and works great in low light situation when you cannot hand hold at slower shutter speed. The Camera Store’s Chris Niccolls had a chance to use the very exciting Fujifilm X100 for a day. So he grabbed renowned photographer Tyler Stalman (www.stalman.com) and spent a day in the freezing Alberta cold taking photos. This is some 3D test footage I took with my new Aiptek 3D camcorder. It compares the video framerate of the camera BEFORE and AFTER the firmware update from their European site. The firmware results are most apparent if you view the video in side-by-side format…look for blurriness during camera movements…it is improved greatly with the firmware update. I found that, out of the box, the camera’s video quality is pretty worthless. I looked closely at the video footage I took before the update and found that although it was indeed 29.97 fps, every frame was simply duplicated 3 or 4 times! Furthermore, there was a lot of OBVIOUS OBNOXIOUS jagged/aliased edges to everything. With the firmware update, I did get a true 29.97 fps and the video is much less ‘jagged’ now. I don’t understand how this company is still in business! The firmware update is nowhere to be found on the US site and I can’t imagine most people didn’t send this thing back after looking at the resulting images prior to the firmware update. Why the heck aren’t they updating these things before shipping them out? Mine appears to have been manufactured in October, 2010 (FW version 3607). If you update the firmware to bring the framerate up to 29.97 fps (and you will probably want to!), MAKE SURE YOU USE THE CORRECT UPDATE FOR YOUR CAMERA’S CURRENT Firmware Version from the European site (the camera’s current firmware version is found within the menu system of the camera).
