Friday Freebie features an image to liven up your iPad display with images from my travels… all for free.

California sunsets can be quite amazing. On a recent trip to Santa Barbara, California I was reminded of this with an amazing light show. For 8 years I lived in Santa Barbara and as much as  I hate to admit it I often took them for granted. Taken from campus point at UC Santa Barbara this particular view of the Channel Islands, Santa Cruz Island to be specific, with under-lit clouds really took my breath away. Land’s End Sunset

There is no canvas more beautiful than that of the ocean at sunset or sunrise. To the untrained eye it may all seem to be the same, but upon closer examination no one view is ever the same. I consider myself lucky in that every evening, barring the presence of fog, I’m treated to a view of a new sunset.

While the view from home is nice, it’s never as nice as the cliffside view from Lands End here in San Francisco. In this photo a bank of fog burned off in the waning minutes of light. The remaining hints of fog turned purple framing golden lit surf swirling around coastal rock formations. Definitely a view worth waiting for before hiking back to my car in the dark.

Sunset Portrait Photography Tips

www.dombower.com facebook page http twitter twitter.com This video shows you a quick shoot I did with my girlfriend kim… sorry I mean film crew Kim, during a bright clear sky sunset the other day. Scotland is having some volcanic dust in the air due to iceland having a volcano erupting and it is giving us nice saturated sunsets. So here i go through the settings exposure, flash and white balance and then also NDgrad filter application with a sunset and portrait photo. Hope this helps dom
