Leica-branded instant camera rumored to launch soon

15 Sep
via Leica Rumors

Leica might be set to announce its own version of one of Fuji’s instant print cameras in what looks like another re-badging exercise. The Leica Sofort (‘instant’ in German) camera was unofficially announced in the company’s Leica Fotografie International magazine, but isn’t due to be formally released until tomorrow – according to Leica Rumors. The camera appears to be a redesigned Fujifilm Instax mini 90 as it shares the same basic shape and lens, and it takes Fujifilm’s Instax mini film. Leica looks to have slightly altered the buttons and added some minor details, and has named the 34mm equivalent lens Automatik-Hektor 1:12.7/60mm.

Leica will also reportedly introduce its own range of color and black and white films to go with the camera, which will almost certainly be repackaged Fujifilm materials. Fuji’s own film will also fit the Sofort.

Leica rumors expects the camera to cost €279 (approx. $ 310) with a choice of three colors. The Fuji Instax mini 90 costs €150/$ 150.

Content-aware cropping coming soon to Adobe Photoshop CC

27 May

Adobe Photoshop CC will soon offer content-aware cropping, the company has announced. The feature, as demonstrated in a video released today, will allow Photoshop users to automatically fill any white space around an adjusted photo with content that matches the original image. The tool can be used to add content (to change the aspect ratio, for example), or to fill in gaps that result from rotating or repositioning the image.

Content-aware cropping has been a frequently requested feature, says Adobe. The company will include the new cropping tool ‘as part of an upcoming major release,’ though it doesn’t specify whether it will be the next major update or a later one.

The Void: World’s First Virtual Reality Theme Park Coming Soon

14 May

[ By Steph in Gaming & Computing & Technology. ]

The Void 1

“Why play a game when you can live it?” ask the creators of The Void, the world’s first virtual reality theme park slated to open in Utah in summer 2016. Gamers will soon be able to immerse themselves in 4D environments, with all sorts of eye-popping effects layered onto real spaces. Imagine: first-person shooters meet paintball or laser tag – this is the future of gaming.

The flagship Pleasant Grove location will feature sixteen 60-by-60-foot rooms with different themes for different experiences, and they even plan to change these virtual stages every three months so repeat players never get bored.

Want to find out what it feels like to wander around in the jungle during the Jurassic age, or explore a truly terrifying haunted house? Zoom around skyscrapers in a flying car? The Void basically enables you to star in your own action movie, alone or with a group of friends, in a VR experience that far surpasses anything you could do with a headset on your couch.

Each stage not only has custom architecture and sculptures to make it feel more real – you’ll also feel blasts of air and shifts in temperature, take in scents and strap yourself into motion simulators for activities like flying. Individual rooms hold up to 10 gamers at a time who can work as a team or play against each other. The Void has created a virtual reality headset of its own design, called Rapture HMD.

You won’t necessarily have to fly to Utah to experience it, either – they’re planning on opening other locations around the world.
