It’s not often we get to eat what we photograph, but that’s what we did in our latest Field Test. We took the Samsung NX500 into the woods with pro photographer and mycology enthusiast Eirik Johnson to forage for some wild mushrooms. While providing a keen eye to make sure we didn’t try to eat anything poisonous, Eirik also helped us try out the NX500’s imaging and 4K video features. Read more

We’ve all witnessed the megapixel race in digital cameras and, just a few years later, the trend has caught on in the smartphone camera sector. Lately though, manufacturers seem to putting more of an emphasis on low light performance. With smartphone screens growing larger and nearing what used to be tablet territory, it’s probably natural that the latter are increasing screen size as well. Apple launched the 12.9-inch iPad Pro in September and now Samsung, which already has the 12.2-inch Galaxy Tab Pro in its line-up, has gone one step further and launched the gigantic Galaxy View with an 18.4-inch display. Samsung has released another firmware update for the NX1 mirrorless camera, taking the model from firmware version 1.32 to 1.40. Samsung has today announced two new smartphones in its mobile device line-up. With their large 5.7-inch screens the Galaxy Note 5 and the Galaxy S6 Edge+ both qualify as phablets and share most components, including camera hardware borrowed from the Galaxy S6. Read more

Samsung has announced the start of mass-production of its S5K3P3 image sensor for mobile devices. The new chip is 20 percent thinner than previous generations. At under 5mm thickness, the new sensor can be used in ultra-thin smartphones without creating the protruding camera modules we’ve seen on some of the latest Samsung Galaxy models. Read more
