Ricoh announces WG-30W and WG-30 rugged compacts
Ricoh has announced the WG-30W and WG-30, expanding its rugged compact camera lineup. The WG-30W provides Wi-Fi connectivity while the WG-30 doesn’t, but outside of that the two cameras are identical. Offering a 16MP BSI CMOS sensor, the WG-30W is waterproof to a depth of 40ft / 12m, shockproof to 5ft / 1.5m, crushproof to 220lbf/100kgf and coldproof down to +14F/-10C. Read more

Ricoh announces WG-20 entry-level rugged compact
Ricoh has announced the WG-20, an inexpensive rugged compact that’s waterproof to 10m/33ft, freezeproof to -10C/+14F, and able to survive a 1.5m/5ft drop. Sporting a 14 megapixel CCD sensor, it provides a 28-140mm 5x optical zoom lens and 720p HD movie recording. It’s a continuation of Pentax’s WG-line (minus the ‘Pentax’ logo), and presumably a WG-10 replacement, though the cameras appear to share the same sensor, lens and rugged specifications. Ricoh WG-4 and WG-4 GPS debut with premium rugged specifications
The Ricoh WG-4 and WG-4 GPS update the previously Pentax-branded rugged WG-series as step-up models featuring a 16MP BSI-CMOS sensor, 25-100mm equiv. F2-4.9 lens and sensor-shift image stabilization. The two models are nearly identical with the exception of the WG-4 GPS’ built-in location tagging capability and front-facing display, and are introduced with a number of mount accessories for action videography and photography. Rugged Fujifilm FinePix XP70 offers Wi-Fi, Full HD video
CES 2014: The Fujifilm FinePix XP70 is the company’s latest rugged compact, building on its predecessor’s specification with Wi-Fi connectivity. It’s also waterproof to 33 ft / 10m (compared to the XP60’s 20 ft rating), shockproof up to a 5 ft / 1.5m drop and freezeproof to +14F/-10C. It offers a 28-140mm equivalent F3.9-4.9 zoom lens, 16 megapixel sensor, and 1080 HD video at 60i/30p.

Rugged new iON camera may be a GoPro killer
Another tiny, rugged, HD, WiFi-enabled video camera on the market may offer GoPro some real competition. Able to capture 12MP photos and 1080p video, the Air Pro 3 has a 160-degree lens that can be adjusted to be less extreme, but still very wide, 140- or 150-degree angle. Nikon 1 AW1 is world’s first rugged, waterproof digital mirrorless
Nikon has announced the 1 AW1, the world’s first rugged, waterproof mirrorless interchangeable lens camera. It has also made AW versions of its 11-27.5mm f/3.5-5.6 and 10mm f/2.8 lenses that are both shock and waterproof. The Nikon 1 AW1 features similar underlying specifications to the J3, featuring a 14MP sensor capable of shooting at up to 15 fps with continuous AF (60 fps with focus fixed), but is waterproof to a depth of 15m (49ft) and shockproof from a height of 2m (6.6 ft). It will cost around $ 800/£750 with 11-27.5mm lens and $ 1,000/£950 with the 10mm f/2.8 added to make a two-lens kit.

Fujifilm unveils Finepix XP200 rugged compact camera with Wi-Fi
Fujifilm has launched the XP200 rugged compact camera with built-in Wi-Fi. It is waterproof to a depth of 15m, shockproof for drops of up to 2m, freezeproof to -10°C and dust/sand proof. It is based around a 16MP CMOS sensor and 28-140mm equivalent lens. The camera’s Wi-Fi capability allows users to share photos via the ‘Fujifilm Camera Application’ app for iOS and Android devices. The XP200 will be available in black, yellow, blue and red from May 2013 at a suggested retail price of $ 299.95.

Nikon reveals Coolpix AW110 and S31 rugged waterproof cameras
CP+ 2013: Nikon has announced the Coolpix AW110 and S31 tough, waterproof cameras. The AW110 is the more resilient and feature-packed of the two. It features a 16MP BSI CMOS sensor, OLED screen and a 28-140mm equivalent stabilized zoom. It is waterproof to 18m (59ft) and shockproof from a height of 2m (6.7ft) and includes both GPS and Wi-Fi. The S31 is built around a smartphone-sized 10MP sensor and includes a 29-87mm equivalent lens. It’s waterproof to 5m (16.5ft) and shockproof from a height of 1.2m (3.6ft).
