Pergear releases $165 12mm F2 lens for APS-C mirrorless camera systems

Budget photo accessory manufacturer Pergear has announced the release of its new 12mm F2 wide-angle APS-C lens for Fujifilm X mount, Micro Four Thirds (MFT) mount, Nikon Z mount and Sony E-mount camera systems.

The new manual-focus lens is constructed of 12 elements in 9 groups, including two aspherical and two high-refractive elements. The 12mm focal length offers a full-frame equivalent of 18mm on Fujifilm X mount, Nikon Z mount and Sony E mount cameras and 19mm on MFT mount cameras.

The lens features an aperture range of F2 through F22, a ten-blade aperture diaphragm and a minimum focusing distance of 20cm (.66ft). It measures in at 66mm (2.6”) diameter and 59.5mm (2.34”) long, and weighs only 300g (.66lbs).

The lens costs $ 165 for all mount options (Fuji X, MFT, Nikon Z and Sony E) and comes with front and rear lens caps, a lens bag and a mini air blower.

Fujifilm releases major 4.00 firmware update for X-T3, bringing dramatic autofocus improvements

As it said it would at the beginning of October, Fujifilm has released a firmware update for its XT3 camera that it claims will dramatically improve autofocus performance.

Firmware version 4.00 for the XT-3 claims to triple the autofocus speed from 0.06 seconds down to 0.02 seconds, bringing it in line with the autofocus speed of the newer X-T4. The algorithm that predicts the location of subjects has also been improved, according tot he changelog.

Overall autofocus tracking performance has been doubled (compared to firmware version 3.30), with faster and more accurate subject acquisition. Both Eye AF and Face Tracking have also been given a performance boost with this firmware, doubling the tracking speed according to Fujifilm.

As noted in its initial announcement, this firmware also allows for autofocus performance down to -7 EV when using the new Fujifilm XF 50mm F1 and adds a focus limited option for pre-determining specific focus ranges.

Although much less exciting, the Fujifilm X-H1 has also received a firmware update (version 2.11) that addresses minor bugs.

FeiyuTech releases new AK2000C gimbal with 2.2kg (5lbs) payload, 7-hour battery life

Hot on the heels of DJI releasing its latest gimbals, Chinese gimbal manufacturer FeiyuTech has released the AK2000C, its latest three-axis handheld gimbal for mid-sized camera systems.

The AK2000C is a lightweight handheld gimbal that can hold just shy of 2.2kg (5lbs) worth of camera gear and run for up to seven hours on a single charge. This payload would be enough to hold recent cameras, such as the Canon EOS R/R5/R6, Fujifilm X-T3, Nikon Z6/7 and Sony a7 III with standard primes and zoom lenses attached.

The frame of the gimbal is constructed of an aluminum alloy and, much like DJI’s gimbals, it features quick-release locks on all three axes for keeping everything secure when packed away. The gimbal comes in at just over 1kg (2.5lbs) and folds up to 69mm (2.7”) x 208mm (8.1”) x 348mm (13.6”).

FeiyuTech says the AK2000C is powered by its W7 algorithm, which includes pre-programmed shooting modes, such as timelapse, 360 pans, selfie mode, vertical shooting and more. Both camera and gimbal settings can be controlled right on the gimbal using its new OLED touchscreen (FeiyuTech doesn’t specify what specific cameras work with the gimbal though).

The AK2000C is currently avaialble to purchase through FeiyuTech’s online store, Amazon and authorized FeiyuTech retailers for $ 229.

7artisans releases $255 35mm F0.95 manual prime for APS-C mirrorless camera systems

7artisans has announced yet another affordable ultra-fast manual prime lens, the 35mm F0.95 APS-C lens for Canon M, Fuji X, Micro Four Thirds, Nikon Z and Sony E mount camera systems.

The lens, which retails for just $ 255, is constructed of 11 elements in 8 groups, has an aperture range of F0.95–16, offers a minimum focusing distance of 37cm (14.5”) and has a 12-blade aperture diaphragm. It offers a 43º angle of view, has a declicked aperture dial and weighs just 369g (13oz).

DJI releases RS 2, RSC 2 3-axis gimbals with higher payloads, new shooting modes and more

DJI has revealed a new pair of gimbals that are successors to the company’s popular Ronin-S and Ronin-SC stabilization systems. The new DJI RS 2 and RSC 2 are ‘redesigned and reimagined’ three-axis handheld gimbals for filmmakers of all types.

DJI RS 2

The DJI RS 2 is the successor to the Ronin-S and is made to be used with DSLR and compact cinema camera setups up to 4.5kg (10lbs). Despite the heavy payload, DJI claims the new RS 2 features up to 12 hours of battery life, as well as a new quick-charge function built into the handle for quickly adding two hours of use with just 15 minutes of charging.

DJI is using its ‘newly optimized’ Titan Stabilization Algorithm for driving the onboard brushless motors, which it claims ‘reduces the need for manual user input while compensating for user movement and optimizing the gimbal tilt and angle.’ Also new is a SuperSmooth mode that’s specifically tuned to compensate for movement when using longer focal lengths up to 100mm.

Like its predecessor, the RS 2 features axis locks for secure transport and a new dual-layer mounting plate that’s compatible with both Arca-Swiss and Manfrotto standards.

A new 1.4” color touchscreen on the rear of the RS 2 serves as a way to cycle through settings, camera data or even a live feed from the camera. Two onboard RSA ports can double as NATO ports, enabling the RS 2 to be used in conjunction with other DJI and third-party accessories, including jibs, car attachments, sliders, grips and remote controllers.

DJI RSC 2

Just as the the DJI RS 2 is a successor to the Ronin-S, the RSC 2 is a successor to DJI’s Ronin-SC. The updated gimbal is constructed of steel and aluminum, which work to increase rigidity while reducing the overall weight of the unit compared to the Ronin-SC by 35%. It also has a smaller physical footprint with a folded size of 180mm x 190mm (7” x 7.5”) — roughly the size of an A5 sheet of paper.

Despite the reduction in both size and weight, the RSC 2 features an increased maximum payload of 3kg (6.6lbs) over the Ronin-SC. DJI notes this makes it more than strong enough to carry a combination such as the Panasonic S1H with a 24–70mm lens attached.

It too features DJI’s improved Titan Stabilization Algorithm, dual-plate mount system and OLED screen, albeit slightly smaller at just 1”.

Other features and accessories

In addition to new hardware, both the RS 2 and RSC 2 have received a new pre-programmed movement mode — Time Tunnel. This new option is an inception-esque mode that performs a 360º roll while capturing a hyperlapse. This mode is in addition to other pre-programmed modes such as Flashlight, One-Tap Portrait Mode, Panorama, Roll 360, Timelapse and more.

Ronin RSC 2

The two gimbals also include an array of accessories for building out the gimbals to fit your needs. Optional accessories include a cheese plate, Focus Wheel, 3D Focus System, Twist Grip Dual Handle, RavenEye Image Transmission System, Tethered Control Handle, counterweight systems and more.

DJI RS 2: Masterfully Crafted

Considering a tremendous amount of feedback from professional operators, DJI RS 2 incorporates carbon fiber in vital structural components, reducing weight down to 1.3 kg (2.86 lbs) while remaining highly durable. Camera Bits releases Photo Mechanic Plus, a new DAM with an emphasis on speed, efficiency

Camera Bits, the company behind the popular photo ingestion program Photo Mechanic, has released its newest product, Photo Mechanic Plus. This new program features all of the ingestion, code replacement and other features within the standard Photo Mechanic program, but takes it a step further by adding a full-fledged digital asset manager (DAM) for organizing and sorting through your photographs with ease, not unlike Adobe Photoshop Bridge or the ‘Catalog’ module in Lightroom.

The new program includes all of the features of Photo Mechanic 6, but also adds a powerful database option for managing all of your photos on macOS and Windows computers. This includes the ability to create individual catalogs that can be accessed independently or together based on the filters and parameters you’ve applied.

Camera Bits claims you can scroll through a million photos ‘without a pause’ in its new DAM. While this might seem implausible, anyone who’s used Photo Mechanic knows how quickly the program is capable of displaying and sorting through thousands of images without bringing your computer to a halt.

Other features include a powerful search box for finding exactly the images you need as well as saved searches for keywords and parameters you frequently need to access. TTartisan releases an $80 35mm F1.4 lens for APS-C mirrorless camera systems

TTartisan is back with its latest lens, an ultra-affordable 35mm F1.4 lens for APS-C mirrorless camera systems.

The fully-manual TTartisan 35mm F1.4 lens retails for just $ 80 and is available for Canon EOS M, Fuji X, Micro Four Thirds and Sony E mount camera systems. It’s constructed of seven elements in six groups, has an aperture range of F1.4-F16, uses a ten-blade aperture diaphragm and has a minimum focusing distance of 28cm (11”).

Meyer Optik Görlitz releases Trioplan 50mm F2.8 lens for multiple camera mounts

Meyer Optik Görlitz has released the Trioplan 50mm F2.8 II, its third lens of the year, following the Lydith 30mm F3.5 II and Trioplan 100mm F2.8 II. Like both of the previous lenses, the 50mm F2.8 II isn’t just an incremental update—it’s entirely new, designed from the ground up.

The lens has a slightly faster maximum aperture of F2.8 compared to its predecessor, which maxed out at F2.9. The lens also features the signature ‘soap bubble bokeh,’ has a 52mm front filter thread and a minimum focusing distance of 40cm (15.75”).

Fujifilm releases version 2.0 update for its X Webcam utility, brings on-screen settings control

Fujifilm has announced a version 2.0 release of its X Webcam utility, which makes it possible to use your compatible Fujifilm X and GFX camera as a webcam with popular livestreaming and video conferencing programs.

The version 2.0 update is available for both macOS and Windows users. The small update adds a new settings control window making it possible to change settings on-the-fly. In addition to basic exposure compensation and white balance changes, the settings control window can also be used to change film simulations and more while the camera is connected to your computer.

As with the previous version, Fujifilm X Webcam works with the following Fujifilm cameras: GFX100, GFX 50S, GFX 50R, X-H1, X-Pro2, X-Pro3, X-T2, X-T3, X-T4.

Adobe releases Premiere Pro update, including scene detection and improved HDR

Adobe has announced an update for Adobe Premiere Pro and released a new beta for After Effects. In Premiere Pro, which is now at version 14.4, Adobe has added Scene Edit Detection, HDR for broadcasters, exporting with proxies and more. The beta update for After Effects includes a new 3D Gizmo and new camera navigation tools. Both the new Premiere Pro release and the beta update for After Effects include improved performance.

The new Scene Edit Detection feature, powered by Adobe Sensei artificial intelligence, allows you to add edit points in any footage as you import it into Premiere Pro. When using Scene Edit Detection is used, Premiere Pro analyzes imported video, detects original edit points and adds cuts or markets at edit points. Premiere Pro 14.4 includes a new Rec.2100 color space, allowing broadcasters to work with more dynamic HDR content. Additional HDR features include fully color managed and GPU accelerated workflows for Apple ProRes and Sony XAVC-I formats, color space overrides and the ability to set scopes for Rec2100 HLG. The next new feature for Premiere Pro, exporting with proxies, allows users to select to use proxies while exporting, such as when you want a quick export that doesn’t require full-resolution media. There is also a new export feature, Quick Export, currently in a public beta. This feature allows easier access to popular and frequently used export settings from the menu bar in Premiere Pro. You can see a preview of this feature below.

Premiere Pro and After Effects (beta) have both received improvements to overall performance. Premiere Pro’s improved performance results in third-party audio plugins now scanning up to 10-15 times faster than before. ProRes multi-cam performance has been doubled as well. After Effects’s channel effects incorporate GPU acceleration, which results in performance improvements ranging from about 1.5 to 3 times.

After Effects’s new beta includes a new 3D Gizmo. This feature allows for faster motion graphics work and improved speed for scene navigation. There are also new camera navigation tools, including support for multiple virtual cameras.
