Pixelmator Pro 1.2 brings smart photo enhancements, batch processing and more

Pixelmator today released Pixelmator Pro 1.2 Quicksilver, a major update to its image editing app that brings support for macOS Mojave, machine-learning-powered automatic photo enhancement, and batch image processing among other new features.

“Users love Pixelmator Pro for making such powerful image editing tools so incredibly easy to use,” said Saulius Dailide, one of the founders of the Pixelmator Team. “And the new ML Enhance is our most powerful feature yet — it lets you dramatically improve the look of any photo with a single click, thanks to a machine learning algorithm trained on millions of professional photos.”

The new ML Enhance feature automatically adjusts color and exposure locally in the frame. The goal is to give the user an optimized starting point for their own edits. The feature was developed using a set of millions of photos to train the machine learning algorithm which analyzes photos to detect objects and scenes and applies the adjustments.

There’s also a new option to use a light-colored user interface in addition to a refresehed version of the dark theme, allowing for easy adaption to the light and dark modes in macOS Mojave. The app is also capable of automatically switching to adapt to the current appearance of macOS.

A lot of the new and existing features can now be applied via the Automator batch processing tool, making work with large numbers of files less stressful. Other improvements include support for colorful SVG Fonts, a Continuity Camera camera, an Eraser Mode for the Pixel Paint tool, as well as a range of performance improvements and bug fixes.

Pixelmator Pro update adds Light Leak effect and more

Pixelmator has announced an update to its Pixelmator Pro image editing software. Version 1.1.4 to brings new effects, a new AI-powered Auto Selective Color adjustment tool and more.

The Auto Selective Color feature uses machine learning to automatically apply selective color adjustments, improving specific colors in an images. A new Light Leak effect adds a vintage film look to your photos and the Bokeh effect simulates the shallow depth of field of a fast lens on a DSLR, similar to what we are seeing on many current smartphone cameras.

There is also a new Spin Blur effect which creates circular motion effects. The Noise effect is something we have seen before on other editing applications and simply lets you add grain to your images. Other new effects include Threshold, Mask to Alpha, Clouds, and more Tile and Distort effects.

Auto White Balance and Auto Lightness preserve skintones better and are 30 percent faster than in previous versions of the software

Pixelmator did not only add new features, however, but also improved some of the existing tools. The company says Auto White Balance and Auto Lightness preserve skintones better and are 30 percent faster than in previous versions of the software. The Color Adjustments and Effects sub-menus now come with Copy, Paste, Reset and Flatten Adjustment options. In addition you can now use a new keyboard shortcut (O) to show the original image while editing.

Pixelmator reveals Pixelmator Pro, an Adobe competitor for Mac users

Pixelmator’s new high-end Mac photo editor Pixelmator Pro, which the company partially revealed back in September, is officially live and available to purchase through the Mac App Store.

In case you’ve forgotten, Pixelmator Pro is a nondestructive single-window application with some editing features powered by machine learning, GPU-based image editing tools, and what the company describes as “an incredibly intuitive and accessible design.” Users get a fully native Mac experience, says Pixelmator, which designed Pixelmator Pro with a look inspired by macOS.

Thanks to Core ML framework, Pixelmator Pro also features integrated machine learning to power features like automatic horizon detection and layer naming, intelligent quick selection, and realistic object removal.

Ultimately, the company is hoping that Pixelmator Pro will represent the perfect marriage between pro-tier features and accessible design.

Other notable features include full Mac integration, including support for iCloud, compatibility with Adobe Photoshop, support for raw images and multiple raw layers, HEIF compatibility, and vector tools, among many other things. And if you feel that a major feature is missing, you’ll be happy to know that multiple free updates bringing major new features are already in the pipeline for release in the near future.

Pixelmator 3.7 update adds High Sierra and HEIF support

Pixelmator has released version 3.7 Mount Whitney of its comprehensive image editing app for Mac. The update brings support for macOS High Sierra and the new HEIF (High Efficiency Image File Format) image format that was introduced with the iPhone 8 series and iPhone X.

In addition, Pixelmator can now directly be launched from the Photos app and any edits you make within the more powerful editor will be saved to the original image in the Photos library as well. The option to edit with Pixelmator will appear in the Photos Image menu as soon as the app has been installed or updated to the latest version.

“People love using Pixelmator on the Mac, and one of the biggest reasons is its extensive integration with macOS,” said Saulius Dailide, one of the founders of the Pixelmator Team. “And with Pixelmator 3.7 Mount Whitney, we think users are really going to love the much more seamless experience of launching Pixelmator right from the Photos app and automatically saving changes back to the same image in the Photos library.”

The update also includes improvements to the Repair Tool to make it faster and more accurate, as well as improved support for PSD images. The updated Pixelmator can be downloaded from the App Store for $ 30.

Pixelmator Pro will use artificial intelligence to power photo editing features

Pixelmator, the company behind a $ 30 image editing application for Mac, has just announced a new product called Pixelmator Pro. Though it hasn’t yet been revealed how much this software will cost, the company has detailed many of its features, some of them powered by artificial intelligence.

Pixelmator Pro, an editor designed specifically for macOS, taps Apple’s Core ML framework to bring machine learning capabilities to certain features including: horizon detection, automatic layer naming, an object-removing repair tool, and a quick selection tool.

The editor itself has a single-window design alongside a ‘reimagined editing workflow,’ the company explains, saying its app is ‘totally and completely’ designed for Apple’s operating system. Despite the simplicity of its design, Pixelmator Pro is promised to pack a robust array of tools for editing images (including Raw files), digital painting, adjusting colors, adding non-destructive effects, and more.

Speaking to The Verge, Andrius Gailiunas of Pixelmator explained that Pixelmator Pro is designed for use by anyone. “Our goal has always been to create an image editor that absolutely anyone could use and enjoy,” says Gailiunas. Because the software is designed for Mac, users will have access to iCloud backups and syncing, support for the Touch Bar on new MacBook Pro laptops, and support for split-screen multitasking.

Pixelmator plans to launch its Pro application this autumn, but hasn’t stated the price yet. In that same interview with The Verge, the company said it will price Pro as affordably as possible; however, we presume it will cost more than the $ 30 they’re charging for the regular Pixelmator editor.
