froknowsphoto.com Everybody needs to do this yet we forget it can be done in Lightroom! I go over my methods for sharpening and enhancing the eyes as well as softening the skin. Negative clarity is the key to softening the skin while lightening the iris (colored part!) helps to enhance the eye. Something I did forget to mention is you can also lighten the sclera (whitish, opaque part of the eye). Do not overdue it!!! Yes you want to make your portraits look great but don’t go overboard and make the image look ‘shopped’. I prefer to have photographs looking real, not images that show off my Lightroom/Photoshop prowess. froknowsphoto.com Video Rating: 4 / 5

Is the weather rotten? Raining? Snowing? Too hot? Too cold? A good day to stay in bed and read LuLa on your iPad?
Fugedaboutit. Get up, grab your camera and get outside. That’s the lesson learned by many photographers over the years. Get outside your comfort zone. Push yourself. You may come home at the end of the day, cold and wet, and possibly without a single worthwhile shot. Or you might have captured something wonderful.
You can read more on this thought by Contributor Mark Dubovoy in his latest essay – Photography, Rain or Shine.
Speaking of Mark, he is now on his way to Germany for this week’s bi-annual Photokina show. Mark will be reporting regularly throughout the week on the major product announcements as well as many of the more obscure ones that we know will interest LuLa readers.
"Awesome video presentation.
I have learnt so much more after looking through this on the weekend. The tip about pushing blacks and fill light in the Basic Module was worth the price alone. My images of a recent trip to the Australian Outback are popping and punching with delight!
Thanks Michael and Jeff – I really appreciate you taking the considerable time to share your in-depth knowledge and insights."
A new website with a public launch TODAY (October 8th, 2010)! What’s it all about? At it’s heart it’s a ‘question and answer resource’ for photographers… with a twist.
Users can ask, answer and most importantly VOTE on the best content! Someone posts a question and multiple people give an answer. The answers with the most votes rise to the top (literally). Old questions can be searched, new questions can be asked, or you can just browse all the past answers made by your favorite photographer.
I invite anyone interested in photography (photography of ALL types) to sign-up (it’s free) and start making some connections on what I expect to become a fantastic photography resource.

You can check out Jake Garn’s answer to the age-old question: “How do you find a models.” Don’t forget to vote for it! 🙂

The Aperture Foundation, the Photography Department at Parsons The New School for Design, and the Vera List Center for Art and Politics present a new season of panel discussions focusing on photography. Speakers including George Baker, Associate Professor of Modern and Contemporary Art and Vice-Chair of UCLA, Department of Art History; Andrea Geyer, artist and Assistant Professor of Fine Art, Parsons The New School for Design; and artists Paul Pfeiffer and Krzysztof Wodiczko, discuss projection and installation strategies many contemporary artists have used to create immersive and cinema-like experiences in their works and exhibitions. Contemporary artists have started departing from the large, tableau vivant treatments of the photograph, as seen in works by Jeff Wall, Andreas Gursky, Philip-Lorca diCorcia, and Gregory Crewdson. In recent years, they have employed a variety of projection devices to incorporate their photographs into temporal, audio-visual experiences, which recall cinematic contexts yet retain distinctly photographic qualities. On the surface, these works seem to meld experimental and structuralist filmmaking lineages and large-scale photographic practices prevalent in the past two decades. At the same time, the new practitioners of the projected photograph are expanding the definition of photography itself. The lecture series is presented with generous support from the Kettering Family Foundation and the Henry Nias Foundation. The program is made …
