25 January, 2014 – Phase One IQ250 – First Report and Video Interview

Phase One announced today their new IQ250, 50 Megapixel medium format back, which uses a CMOS sensor for the first time in a medium format. This sensor is made by Sony, the first time that a Sony sensor appears in an MF product.

Part One of our on-going analysis of the IQ250 features online a video interview with Phase One executives, a video on how the back’s Live View works, and sample ISO 6400 images, as well as our initial impressions of the back. The article contains price and delivery information, which incidentally begins this coming week.

Kevin and Michael are leaving today (Jan 24) for two weeks in Chile and Antarctica, and will be testing the IQ250 on this expedition. Part 2, full report and video coverage will follow.

And speaking of Antarctica –

Phase One makes Capture One 7.1.4 available

Phase One has released the latest version of its Raw processing software, Capture One 7.1.4. This update offers support for more cameras and lenses, and also promises improved performance when working with large numbers of photos. With this version, Capture One 7 now supports the Sony Cyber-shot RX100 II, Fujifilm X-M1 and Olympus E-P5 among others, and adds 32 new lens profiles. Click through for the full press release.

21 March, 2013 – Three Free Streaming Videos about Phase One’s New Backs

Following a visit with Phase One executives last week, I have produced three new short streaming videos.

The first is a long exposure field test with the IQ260 back, the second is a look at wireless tethering with the new IQ200 series, and the third is an interview with Jacob Frost, team leader for the Capture One software development group.

We hope that you enjoy these, along with the interview with Phase One‘s CEO published a few days ago.

Phase One unveils IQ280, IQ260 and IQ260 Achromatic series digital backs

Phase One has unveiled the IQ260, IQ260 Achromatic and Wi-Fi enabled IQ280 medium format digital camera backs. The 60MP IQ260 and IQ260 Achromatic feature minimum shutter speeds of 1/10,000th of a second. The IQ260 Achromatic is a black-and-white version, with no color and IR filter. The 80MP IQ280’s wireless capability allows users to remotely capture and view images from iOS devices. All three backs feature 3.2″ multi-touch rear screens with 1.15m dot resolution, and built-in accelerometers. They will be available from June 2013 at suggested retail prices starting from €29,990 /$ 39,990.

3 March, 2013 – Three New Phase One Backs Announced

Phase One has announced three new backs, the IQ260, IQ280, and IQ260 Achromatic. Each features built-in Wi-Fi which allows an iPad to be used as a review screen in the field. The IQ260 once again allows for very long exposure times – up to one hour.

I will be reviewing the IQ260 next week. Watch for a review soon.

Phase One releases Capture One Express 7

Phase One has announced Capture One Express 7, the latest version of its Raw image processing and workflow tool for enthusiasts. A stripped-down version of Capture One Pro, Capture One Express 7 gains features including HDR processing, lens correction and a new digital asset management tool. While the Express edition doesn’t support tethered shooting, images can be viewed remotely and wirelessly using either the Capture Pilot app for iOS or using a web browser on computers, Android devices and Windows phones. Capture One Express 7 will cost $ 99/€69 with discounts for upgraders from previous versions. Click through for the press release and more details.

Hazuki and Haiji have waged war on a pair of thieving crows. During the final battle, the young vampire reveals yet another hidden talent: the ability to suppress her presence. In her absolute stillness, Kouhei finds the perfect subject for his photography and they immediately set to work. Hazuki revels in the attention her modeling reaps, enjoying the experience and the time spent with Kouhei. Phase One releases Capture One Pro 7.02 with Fujifilm X-Trans support

Phase One has announced that it has updated its Capture One Pro raw conversion software to version 7.02. This includes support for several additional cameras, including the Fujifilm X-Pro1, X-E1 and XF1, Canon EOS 6D and EOS M, Sony SLT-A57 and NEX-5R, and Olympus XZ-2 iHS. The update is available immediately from the company’s website, as a free download for users of Capture One 7.
