Phase One’s Capture One Pro 8.2 software now available

Phase One has released its new Capture One Pro 8.2 software, and with the update comes a new Color Balance Tool making it easier to produce color graded images, as well as additional ways to find images and support for higher resolution displays, including 4K. In addition, support for a few new cameras and nearly a dozen lenses is in place. The update is available now for existing Capture One Pro users and new customers. Read more

Phase One updates tethering and Raw conversion with Capture One 8.1

Camera and software manufacturer Phase One has released a new version of its Capture One Raw file converter that includes new tools, added flexibility and options, as well as support for additional cameras. Updating the version 8 that was made available in September 2014, Capture One 8.1 allows users to edit files in other applications, such as Photoshop, from inside the program and it now allows up to 16 adjustment layers to be used at one time. Read more

Phase One and Alpa release official details and pricing of A-Series medium format cameras

Phase One has announced official details of its new A-Series medium format cameras after information about the new pairing of the company’s digital backs with an Alpa body and lenses was leaked in November. As was reported at the time, the series will comprise Phase One 50MP, 60MP and 80MP backs, combined with the Alpa 12 TC body and a choice of three lenses – the Alpagon 5.6/23mm, Alpar 4.0/35mm and the Alpagon 5.6/70mm. Read more

Phase One to introduce A-Series mirrorless medium format camera system

American professional camera dealer Digital Transitions has announced that it will host a preview event of a new Phase One medium format digital camera system that doesn’t use a reflex mirror system. Although Phase One has yet to comment, it appears that the A-Series will comprise three configurations which use different Phase One backs. The Phase One A250 will feature the IQ250’s 50MP CMOS sensor, while the A260 and A280 systems will use the IQ260 and IQ280 CCD sensors of 60 and 80 million pixels respectively. Read more

Phase One announces Capture One Pro 8

Phase One has announced the release of Capture One Pro 8, the latest version of its Raw conversion and photo editing software. Capture One Pro 8 highlights include new adjustment tools such as local white balance, clone and heal repair layers to remove unwanted objects, and a film grain tool to mimic film stocks and add realistic grain to images.

Phase One introduces 40-80mm Schneider leaf shutter lens

Phase One has announced a new leaf shutter lens for its 645 camera platform. The new Schneider Kreuznach 40-80mm LS f/4.0-5.6 joins the existing Schneider Kreuznach 75-150mm f/4.0-5.6 leaf shutter zoom lens, and allows for flash synchronization up to 1/1000sec. Supposedly on a par with prime lenses in terms of critical image quality, the new lens is available now for $ 8990 / €6990. Click through for the press release

On February 18, 2014 Silverfleet Capital announced their plans to invest in Phase One.  As happens in the photography industry this announcement sent the rumor mills into high gear.  Loyal Phase One customers were worried that Phase One may be following the path of its competitor which is now run by a VC firm.  Talk of changes and layoffs also were making the rounds.  So, we felt what better way to get the right story than to go to the source.  Kevin Raber caught up with Henrik Håkonsson CEO of Phase One, in Las Vegas last week at the WPPI show and had a chat with him on what this new investor means for Phase One.

The NEW Phase One IQ250 has received a lot of press in the last few weeks.  We had a chance to work with this new back as well as share it with a number of participants on our recent Antarctica workshop. Phase One announces IQ250 50MP CMOS medium format back

Phase One has announced the ‘world’s first CMOS-based digital camera back’ – the 50MP IQ250. It uses a 44x33mm sensor – 68% larger in area than 35mm full frame -and promises the widest ISO range of any medium format camera system (100-6400). It sports a high-resolution 3.2″ touchscreen for live view, playback and changing settings, and has built-in Wi-Fi. The IQ250 is available now, with prices starting at €24990 / $ 34990. Learn more.
