After departing Glacier National Park last week I made a one night stop in Yellowstone National Park. What do you photograph at night in Yellowstone? If you’re me, Old Faithful erupting at night with the Big Dipper in the background.
I was fortunate that the weather was clear on this particular night as it allowed for the moon to illuminate the scene evenly and it made it easy to capture the starry sky above. On the other hand my timing could have been better. I missed the 10:15pm eruption and had to wait approximately 80 minutes for the next one. For nearly 80 minutes it was just me and the Big Dipper passing time. While I was hoping to avoid a long wait, it was a relaxing evening none-the-less.

Direct link to HD YouTube www.youtube.com Test of stereoscopic wide angle HD video with twin GoPro HD video camera. Angle of View is 170 deg. for the 720P-60fps mode used for this particular video. Stereo base was about 150mm. No lens distortion correction. The video quality of this outdoor sport camera is not best at all, but useful for ultra wide angle HD video which is untrodden area in stereoscopy so far. I no longer even recognize the work I was shooting six months ago… it doesn’t even feel like it was me. This feels… better.

Fluorescent lights – Test. The D90 has some problems with fluorescent lights. It produces waves, flickering, striped effects – mainly the older ones. The newer with high frequency are less of a problem. Nikon even says it in the manual. How to fix it: ca.youtube.com

This should help you remove unwanted colour casts from your photos and make you favourite pictures actually evoke the memories of your favourite scenes! This technique is more an art than a science – open up curves and play around with it…it’s the best way to experiment. — Next week: Using the Curves tool to get chores around the house done and make you more appealing to the opposite sex…(ok, maybe curves can’t do *everything*)
