At the end of the program’s first year, the Visual Arts Council of Zambia was so interested in the significant body of work that had been produced by the young artists that they sponsored its exhibition at Lusaka’s private Henry Tayali Gallery in February 2009. Diplomats and members of Zambia’s arts community attended its opening and most of the paintings were sold. An initial challenge of the program was lack of participation by girls. Lubuto initiated efforts to reach and promote the program to girls, and now has female participants and continuing outreach to girls.

Arts & Health Partnership – Salvation Army, Holme Wood

A healthy eating project with older people at the Salvation Army in Holme Wood, Bradford.
Older people on the project explored health issues that were relevant to them, such as; healthy eating, movement and dexterity, mental alertness and well-being, reminiscence and self-confidence.
Activities included; dance, singing, cook and eat sessions and visual arts.
The participants kept a diary of the work they were doing and included pictures and thoughts as they went along.
