8 June, 2010 – Lightroom 3 Released

27 Aug

Adobe has today (finally) released Lightroom 3. You can download it from the Adobe on-line store for your country. It should also show up at retailers shortly as well.

Ian Lyons has his usual excellent summary online of what’s new in LR3.

Jeff Schewe and I have just completed filming our exhaustive live video tutorial. It will run close to ten hours in length and will drill down into every aspect of how the program works, as well as illustrate best practices.  It will be the most detailed and in-depth tutorial on Lightroom 3 available. Look for it here in the weeks ahead.

Oh yes, and our multi-hour tutorial video on Capture One should become available here very soon as well.

"Video Journal 19, one of the best. Interesting and relevant topics, knowledgeable engaging guests, and a host that gently guides the conversation through terrain I want to explore. And more, it’s beautifully shot in a clean, no tricks style that keeps the conversation in focus. Well done all! This one is worth twice the price".

23 March, 2010 – Lightroom 3 Public Beta Two Released

11 May

Adobe has today released a second public beta of Lightroom 3. There’s a lot that’s been improved behind the scenes, and quite a few new features – and of course it’s still free – at least until it ships as a commercial release some time later this year. You do not need a serial number or to have owned a previous version of Lightroom.

My colleague Ian Lyons has just published an in-depth preview of Beta Two, and since Ian knows the product just about as well as anyone I know, this is the place to go for a look at what’s new in the download of Lightroom 3 Beta 2.

This site is about the art and craft of photography, and I rarely if ever use it as a platform for social or political commentary. But I can’t help but congratulate the U.S. on the passage of its historic national health care bill.

The U.S. now joins just about every other country in the developed world in having (at least the beginnings) of a national health care program for its citizens. This is a day of significance for the American people, and I for one am very pleased to finally see it come to pass.

Cosmetic Eye Adjustments With Lightroom 2.0

04 Mar

JohnEsberg.com shows us how to create cosmetic eye adjustments using Lightroom 2.0. Photoshop not required!

Discuss this video at forum.irakrakow.com and network with other Blender 3D users. Read the script for this video at http One of the powerful reasons for using Blender is that it can do just all the steps in video production, from pre production right through post production, by itself. Although you might want to call on another product, such as an external renderer like Yafaray or an image editor such as the Gimp or Photoshop, for some specialized needs, in many cases Blender can do the job. The fewer pieces of software you have to juggle in your workflow, the better. Importing and exporting files between programs is a royal pain. Enhancing the quality of the color of images is one of these areas. When combined with Blender’s composite node system, which I discussed in a basic way in a previous Youtube video, Blender can do just about everything a 2D image editor such as the Gimp or Photoshop can do. In this tutorial, I will show how to use the Mix Node to blend two colors. This is a start to get you comfortable with tweaking 2D images entirely in Blender. This is just the tip of the iceberg. There is plenty of material, just in color processing, for many more tutorials. We’ll spend the entire time in the Node Editor, pretending that Blender is really Photoshop in disguise. I will use Blender 2.49b.
