Keep Track of Your Life Through Photos with the Days App

You had a journal once.

Then, your little sister found it and told your crush all about your dreams of running away to Disneyland to fulfill your dream of meeting Ariel IRL.

That was embarrassing.

Days is totally not that. It’s a journal (disguised as an iOS app) that you’ll *want* to share with friends.

The goal behind the app is to have you document your life in photos as it happens.

How the heck is this different from Instagram? So many ways. Cool ways, too.

A New Life by Carlos Urbina

First of all this is a very personal photo because he is my baby in his birth, I will not write anything of medical conditions, my wife or my personal feelings, I will try just narrate, if I can, an objective photographic feeling about taking this event. The truth is that it is very difficult taking this picture because I was totally scared, I had been in my other two sons births and I thought I could have some experience but the event transcended me again, First I had to attend the operating room rules you have to change your cloth and leave all your things in the changing room, I left even my lens cap, I set my Camera in time priority mode to 1/200 and set my ISO to 1600 and flash off I thought I was ready.

A nurse called me and instructed me to wash my hands, but without my lens cap the water splashed all over my lens, I tried to clean my lens with the coat but it was an awful clean, but there wasn’t time I entered the operating room and my wife was there with all the crew of doctors, I took my wife´s hand and I wasn´t able to be stable with one hand and all the stress and I was trying first of all not to be intrusive. On the other side, and also comes to mind that time I think the camera helps a lot because it gives me a “scenic task” and it made me to lose some stress thinking in the situation, but personal feeling transcends everything and I forgot about the photos and just thank God everything was fine.

The second image was taken I think 15 minutes after my baby´s birth I was alone in the hospital room, alone, euphoric walking side to side of the room and I went to the window and a beautiful sun was raising behind the trees joining me in my loneliness, but the sight from that building wasn’t so beautiful, so I switched to a 100-300 lens and shot bracketed pictures for taking as much sun as I could.
Sometimes, if not always, the events are much greater than the images, but the images are great keeping these events latent.

Photographer since 1993 also electronic engineer and actor, I was born in Mexico City in 1974 and I had traveled to different parts of Mexico seeking to discover its wonders.

Anyone who has used Adobe products, Photoshop or otherwise, knows that they have necessarily become quite creative in naming some of their more abstract, surreal and unusual functions.

Flora Borsi of Budapest, Hungary, is a photographer and photo editor who has explored these meanings in return, taking them back out of the digital realm and applying them to ‘real life’ situations.

Through turns of phrase (‘Convert to Smart Object’) and other twisted interpretations, this series of portraits is an exploration of self, exhibition of abilities and simply fun series of mildly manipulated photos.

Her other series show off her capacity to understand and reproduce historical styles, but also to take and subvert visual expectations, in turn silly, serious and in some cases quite macabre.

“Here’s the way to feel refreshed” was a slogan that caught the eye from magazine readers in the 1940s. “Your thirst takes wings when you treat it with to an ice-cold Coca-Cola”. Even the busiest man in the world comes up smiling after ‘the pause that refreshes’.
From the earliest days, ‘Coca-Cola’ has a very simple purpose, and that is to offer people of the world a moment out of the day to relax, to enjoy and to be refreshed.
The feeling when you drink an ice-cold ‘Coke’ from that traditional curvy glass bottle on a steamy hot day is one of those things you never forget or fail to appreciate. Your whole body relaxes as that caramel-like sweetness hits your tongue and is followed by that wonderfully pleasant burn as it hits the back of your throat and is finally welcomed by your stomach as it quenches your thirst. That, my friends, is refreshment!

Annemarie Busschers: 11 Clearer Than Life Portraits

Annemarie Busschers is a contemporary artist from the Netherlands who creates portraits that beautifully captures the raw emotion of her subjects, often photorealistically.

Annemarie Busschers works, most of which can be found on her site here, follow similar themes of “saying goodbye to the self” (in the artist’s own words). Even when she’s setting out to to capture her subject’s emotion, the realism of her depiction gives it a photo realistic aspect. These examples show several self portraits (top right photo, and bottom).

This painting, via PulpFactor, is one of Annemarie Busscher’s earlier works, and an excellent example of the emotional realism that continues through her most recent portraits. The second image comes via Booooooom and gives a good perspective on the size of her canvases.

These Annemarie Busschers paintings are excellent examples of the amount of texture she attains with her artistry. The size of the canvas gives her room to create a landscape out of skin and facial features, creating an image that’s an incredibly clear treatment of her subject.

Embrace the change in your life

Samantha moves away

I met Sam when she was kind enough to model at one of our photography workshops a few years ago, since then we’ve done well over a dozen shoots and have become close friends.  I love talking to Sam, sometimes we get lost in conversation for hours, if my camera is nearby I’ll pull it out, if it’s not I don’t, but it’s during days like this that I usually shoot my favorite images.  We were talking about change, and dreams, and boys and her moving to Boston (which just happened this past week).  I jotted down some of my favorite things she shared… hope she doesn’t mind!

Embrace the change in your life.
Because change is the only constant. Changing relationships, seasons, moods, friends, our surroundings.
Sometimes I feel  as though I am addicted to change, like I wanna see how many different people I can be.
Because if change is the only thing I can count on, then I better get use to it.
Get use to the heartbreak, get use to being let down, get use to new experiences, get use changing your mind- and then changing it all over again.
if possibilities are endless, then i am never the same person twice.
It’s like a cycle really, the cycle of change.
Change your clothes, change your attitude , change your perspective.
How many different ways can i see this world?
Change your outlook-what do you  think you know?
Life is magic, if you let it be.

In 1906, the ‘Coca-Cola’ company hired William D’Arcy, who set the tone of Coke’s advertising for the coming decades. He held the view that "‘Coca-Cola’ advertising should create scenes that drew people in and made them part of the pleasant interludes of everyday life". D’Arcy showed pleasant people drinking ‘Coca-Cola’ while doing sociable activities such as shopping and playing games.

In the 1920s, ‘Coca-Cola’’s advertising began to reflect the prosperity of the times. Advertisements depicted the rising middle class participating in activities once reserved for the elite in society. An advertising poster shows a couple of friends, chillin’ outside at a party. An other cardboard shows a young girl being pulled on a board behind a boat. The advertisements created images that people aspired to emulate. And with the growing prosperity, such a dream was within everyone’s reach.
