Nikon issues firmware update for D800/D800E

Nikon has released firmware version 1.10 for its full-frame D800/D800E camera. This update includes support for CompactFlash memory cards greater than 128 GB, a host of feature adjustments and other bug fixes. Nikon also updated firmware for the UT-1 communication unit, two Coolpix models and Nikon 1 mirrorless cameras. Learn more

Samsung lens production issues could delay Galaxy S5

With its 16MP ISOCELL 1/2.6-inch sensor, F2.2 aperture, 4K video, reflector integrated LED-flash, water-resistant body and hybrid AF-system, the recently announced Samsung Galaxy S5 looks like one of 2014’s hottest options for mobile photographers. Nikon issues statement on rumored D600 / D610 swap-outs

Reports have been surfacing that Nikon is issuing new D610 cameras to customers who send in their D600s for service. It’s hard to substantiate, but Nikon Rumors has been collating reports from Europe and the US which seem to show that some customers who send their D600s in for service related to the now notorious dust accumulation issue have been receiving brand new D610s in exchange. Read Nikon’s statement on the matter

Nikon issues firmware updates for Df, D5200 and D3200

Nikon has posted firmware updates for the Df, D5200 and D3200. As well as a number of minor bugs and performance issues, support has been added to the D3200 and D5200 for the new collapsible AF-S DX 18-55mm F3.5–5.6G VR II, allowing them to display an error message if the camera is turned on with the lens in its collapsed state. Read more and get the updates

Sigma issues advisory on lens compatibility with Nikon Df

Sigma has posted a statement on its website regarding incompatibilities between its lenses and the Nikon Df. As with the D5300, both autofocus and image stabilisation may not work correctly; however lenses without built-in focus motors are also affected when used on the Df. The company says it will provide free lens firmware updates to fix the issue, but this may not be possible with discontinued models. Click through for full details.

Ricoh issues fifth feature-enhancing upgrade for GR Digital IV

Ricoh has released firmware v2.30 for its GR Digital IV enthusiast compact. The latest update is the fifth for the GRD IV, and adds a couple of features, slightly modifies the camera’s behavior and fixes some minor bugs. The latest update brings the white balance options of the GRD IV into line with the more recent, large sensor, GR model, for which Ricoh has also said it will provide function-enhancing firmware.

Nikon has released a firmware update for its Nikon D7100 digital SLR. Firmware version C 1.01 corrects errors in how certain kinds of shooting data is displayed, and aims to resolve other issues relating to live view shooting of stills and video. Adobe issues Camera Raw v8.1 and DNG Converter ‘release candidates’

Adobe has issued a ‘release candidates’ of Adobe Camera Raw 8.1 and DNG Converter 8.1 on its Adobe Labs site. The release is the first version of ACR designed to work with Photoshop CC but, as promised, is also compatible with Photoshop CS6. CS6 users will only gain camera compatibility, not any of the functions added in ACR 8 (and Lightroom 5), such as the perspective-correcting ‘Upright’ tool or the advanced healing brush. The latest version brings support for 7 additional cameras along with 16 lens profiles.
