  • NYC Ghosts and Flowers

    Der Künstler Edgar Leciejewski lebt und arbeitet in Leipzig. Hier entstand auch seine Serie NYC Ghosts and Flowers. Für die Streetfotos der ganz anderen Art musste er nicht nach New York fliegen, sondern erstellte die Bilder von zu Hause aus mit Hilfe von Google Street View.

    Die von der Suchmaschine zensierten und entpersonalisierten Gesichter inspirierten ihn. “Sie wirken geisterhaft und werden so zu Symbolen und Projektionsflächen”, so Edgar.

    Für ihn ist New York eine Stadt der flüchtigen und genauen Blicke. Die Bilder für sein Projekt stammen aus Haarlem, Brooklyn, Manhattan und Queens – Orte, an denen er während seines Studienaufenthaltes 2010 selbst war.

    Die Bilder wurden nach der Auswahl noch bearbeitet, störende Details hat er entfernt und den passende Ausschnitt gewählt.

    Edgar Leciejewski sieht Google Street View nicht als das Böse, als das es oft dargestellt wird. Für ihn schafft das Projekt eine Sammlung vom Leben im 21. Jahrhundert. Gleichzeitig verweist er auf die Anfänge der Fotografie. Viele Fotografen haben damals Archive angelegt um zum Beispiel Pflanzen (Karl Blossfeldt, Anna Atkin) oder auch Stadtansichten (Eugène Atget) zu sammeln.
