Sigma has added two new fast-aperture lenses to its Art and Contemporary lineups.

The other lens is for Sony E-mount and Micro Four Thirds bodies, and it’s a fast 30mm F1.4 prime, equivalent to 45mm and 60mm, respectively. This lens uses a stepping motor for fast and quiet focus during video and weighs just 263g/9.3oz.

The 30mm F1.4 will ship in mid-March at an MSRP of $ 339, while the 50-100mm F1.8 is expected in late April priced at $ 1099.

Tested for Optimum Performance

Sigma lenses are born of well-thought-out design concepts, exceptional Japanese craftsmanship and manufacturing, and advanced lens performance testing and evaluation. To this end, Sigma has developed its own A1 proprietary MTF (modulation transfer function) measuring system using 46-megapixel Foveon direct image sensors. Even the most elusive high-frequency details are within the scope of Sigma’s quality control inspections. Every Global Vision lens is A1 tested, analyzed and approved before leaving the factory ensuring maximum performance out of the box.

Kipon to produce Canon EF to Sony E-mount adapter with AF and slot-in ND grads

12 Feb

Chinese lens adapter manufacturer Kipon has said it is producing a new model that will allow Canon EF lenses to fit on Sony E-mount mirrorless bodies while maintaining their AF functionality. The Kipon EF-S/E AF ND lens adapter also comes provided with a slot-in four-stop graduated neutral density filter that can be fitted into the body of the ring. Sitting between the optics and the camera, the filter will be protected from stray light and in theory will remain clean, so it should deliver better image quality than had the same filter been fitted over the front of the lens.

The company has not released very much detail about the forthcoming adapter, but it does promise that the phase detection AF system will operate at ‘high speed’. Perhaps significantly, the company is showing a picture of the adapter alongside a pair of slot-in filters, so we might hope that other filters will become available at a later date.

The Kipon EF-S/E AF ND adapter will go on sale from 15th March 2016, and will cost $ 428.

For more information visit the Kipon website.

Fotodiox creates ‘Tough E-Mount’ for Sony E & FE-mount cameras

28 Oct

Sony’s NEX and Alpha range of E and FE-mount cameras have a lot going for them, but some users have reported a ‘wiggle’ in the lensmount, especially when heavier lenses, or third-party optics via adapters are used. Fotodiox thinks it has the answer with its new ‘Tough E-Mount’ – literally a replacement lensmount for E and FE-mount cameras. With a single metal ring replacing the two (one metal, one plastic) originally attached to the camera, the Tough E-Mount should (according to the manufacturer) eliminate any movement between camera and lens. Click through for more details

Buried at the end of its press release announcing the α6000, Sony has revealed pricing and availability for its previously announced FE 70-200mm F4 G OSS. Like the other FE lenses it’s not especially cheap, though; the image-stabilised telezoom will be available in March for about $ 1500 (or £1240 in the UK). The lens will work on both full frame and APS-C sensor E-mount cameras, offering a 105-300mm equivalent range on the latter.

Samyang announces five full frame E-mount lenses

16 Oct

samyang.png

Samyang has announced that it will be making five full frame lenses in E mount, which will be available within 2 months. The lenses are all based on existing designs, namely the 14mm f/2.8 ED AS IF UMC, 24mm f/1.4 ED AS IF UMC, 35mm f/1.4 AS UMC, 85mm f/1.4 AS IF UMC, and the T-S 24mm f/3.5 ED AS UMC tilt-and-shift. All feature manual focus and aperture operation too. As these are essentially SLR lenses with an adapter tube permanently fitted, they won’t offer any of the size advantages achievable by ‘native’ lenses.
