Panasonic unveils tiny Lumix DMC-GM1 ILC and compact 12-32mm lens

17 Oct

One of the original promises of the Micro Four Thirds system was to permit the design of small mirrorless cameras. Today Panasonic released its Lumix DMC-GM1, a tiny camera which can literally fit in the palm of your hand. Don’t be fooled, though: it shares the same 16 megapixel sensor as the GX7 and also offers silent shooting at shutter speeds as high as 1/16000 sec, Wi-Fi, and 1080/60i video recording. It’s bundled with a new 12-32mm F3.5-5.6 lens (also available separately) that rivals a pancake lens for compactness when ‘collapsed’.

Now you ‘C’ it: the Leica C enthusiast compact with built-in EVF

09 Sep

lecia-c-news.png

Leica has announced an enthusiast compact with a 12MP 1/1.7″ MOS sensor, 28-200mm equivalent F2.0-5.9 zoom, and built-in 200k dot EVF, which it’s calling simply the Leica C (Typ 112). If the specs look familiar, that’s because this is Leica’s reworking of the Panasonic DMC-LF1.  It offers such goodies as Full HD movie recording, optical image stabilisation, built-in Wi-Fi and NFC, and RAW format recording. It’ll be available in October with a choice of two rather fetching finishes, ‘Dark Red’ and ‘Light Gold’.

Though it isn’t sold under the Pentax name, it bears a striking resemblance to Optio compacts of recent years. It features a 16 megapixel sensor, 24-360mm equivalent zoom lens, 720p HD video and sensor-shift ‘SR’ shake reduction (terminology definitely borrowed from Pentax cameras). Click through for more details.

Hasselblad announces distinctly RX100-esque ‘Stellar’ compact

23 Jul

Stellar.png

Hasselblad has unveiled a rather familiar-looking compact camera – the Stellar. The very RX100-esque compact offers the same 28-100mm equivalent Zeiss-branded zoom and 20MP 1″-type sensor as the Sony, but comes with a substantial hand-grip made from a choice of exotic materials and, we suspect, a significantly higher price tag.
