    Nature is an amazing thing. This week I share with you some images of wildlife, animals in nature. Some may have been taken on nature preserves or even in a zoo, but if the image is well done and we can’t tell kudos to the photographer.

  • A Collection of Breathtaking Images of Beaches

    Seeing as how I’m writing this while I sit with a view of the Pacific Ocean on the Oregon coast, I thought I’d round up some great images of beaches, the sea and the ocean for you this week.

    Some of them incorporate some great long exposure techniques, and many are shot at the magical time of day the Golden Hour.

    If you live near the sea you always have a great subject right nearby. If not, find a local pond, lake, stream or other smaller body of water and make your own magic.

  • A Collection of Powerful Black and White Images

    I have a background in black and white photography – using actual film and processing in a darkroom. The entire first year of my two year college photography program was spent doing black and white photography only, nothing else. I came to love working in the darkroom and seeing the image appear on the paper was magic.

    Now in the digital age, making black and white is a choice you can make after you shoot the images – which gives you options we didn’t have in the film days. So I wanted to share some B&W images to get you thinking about the possibilities.

    The Merriam-Webster dictionary defines silhouette as: a dark shape in front of a light background. It is a dramatic way to use backlighting to create stunning photos. Silhouettes are often associated with portraits but there are many other forms as well.

    Doing night photography is one of my favorite things to do. Photographing the stars is one of the toughest parts of night photography. We’ve had a few articles on night photography and specifically the stars here on dPS. Here are some tips on star photography for you:

  • A Collection of Waterfall Photos to Spruce up your Weekend

    A couple weeks ago I shared some stunning landscape photos and you had a weekly challenge of the same theme. Today I’m going to get more specific and focus in on one element of nature that’s super popular with landscape photographers.

    Waterfalls!

    I think this is one of those things that when you can master taking photos of a waterfall, ones that make you and your friends go “oh wow” then your photography has stepped up a notch to the next level.
