  • Weekly Photography Challenge – Fishing

Fishing and fishermen can be a fascinating subject for photographers. You can see that for yourself in these images we shared earlier. Here are a few more of my images of the fishing village in Nicaragua:

    fishermen-darlene-nicaragua-05

The combination of the fish tails, pineapple, and a bottle of Coke caught my eye. With a bustle of activity on the beach behind it.

    fishermen-darlene-nicaragua-04

These ladies were negotiating, a serious business.

    fishermen-darlene-nicaragua-03

Happy with her purchase. Dinner tonight.

    fishermen-darlene-nicaragua-02

This lady was a stern business woman. The men were not messing with her. It was all “yes maam, yes maam”

    fishermen-darlene-nicaragua-01

A young helper. The family members come to help bring the haul in and get a few fish in exchange for their labor.

    Weekly Photography Challenge – Fishing

This week we want to see images of fishing. Either people or animals in the act of actually catching fish or the equipment that we humans use such as nets, poles, boats, etc. to catch them.

  • Weekly Photography Challenge – Minimalism

Viewing some images that are good examples for minimalism is the first step. Then it’s your turn.

    Weekly Photography Challenge – Minimalism

This one should be fairly simple (pun intended). Find something and shoot it in the most minimalistic way possible. Put less into your image. Get closer and crop tight. Another way to think about it is to simplify. Like these:

    Kim Seng

    By Kim Seng

    A_Peach

    By A_Peach

    Andy Smith

    By Andy Smith

Put on a long lens, use a wide aperture, maybe even try a close-up or macro lens. Watch the edges of your image. Remove anything that doesn’t add to the photo. Keep it simple.

Now if that hasn’t got you melting already, how about this one?

    Weekly Photography Challenge – Fire

    Fire comes in many forms:

    • Campfire
    • Bonfire
    • Match flame
    • Candles
    • Sparklers
    • Volcano
    • Forest fire (not a good thing!)
    • Fire spinning (if you attempt this please take the proper precautions and read this first)
    • Fire poi and other fire spinning type artists
    • Fire breathing dragons (if you find one let me know!)
    • A lighter
    • Burner on a gas stove
    • A torch or welder’s flame (make sure to use welder’s goggle to view and shoot with if you do this!)
    Dwiforr

    By dwiforr

So your challenge this week is to SAFELY find and photograph some fire. It could be as simple as a few sparklers from the dollar store, or more elaborate. But please put your safety, and the safety of the people and properties around you first. Only do what is safe.

    Weekly Photography Challenge – Spooky

Halloween conjures up images of ghosts and goblins, witches and warlocks, ghouls and skeletons who come out of the closet. Now is the time to create your scariest, spooky image and post it here for our theme this week. Maybe it’s dramatic lighting that makes your image scary. Or perhaps someone in a costume, make sure to use spooky monster lighting.

    Weekly Photography Challenge – Pink

Pink is a color many people associate with femininity and girls or girly stuff. Most commonly we think of pink flowers when we talk about this color, but what else can you find that’s pink?

Get out there this week and seek some pink items. It might be a flower, bubblegum, a rosy sunset, or even a cocktail or pair of sneakers. Use your powers of observation and look for this less common color. I bet you’ll start seeing it everyone once you start looking.
