Apple announces iPhone 4S with 8MP camera and 1080p video

Apple has announced its latest iPhone model, featuring an 8MP back-illuminated CMOS sensor. The iPhone 4S features faster image capture (down to 0.5s shot-to-shot time and 1.1 second ‘time to first photo’), and captures more light as a result of the new sensor. It also gains 1080p video, is said to have better auto white balance performance and adds face detection for the first time. The 4S will first be available in the US, UK and five other countries on October 14th, with 22 more countries following two weeks later.

Apple releases Final Cut Pro X video editing software

Apple has announced Final Cut Pro X, the latest version of its popular high-end video editing software. Final Cut Pro X features a trackless canvas, that Apple is calling a ‘Magnetic Timeline’ for flexible arranging and editing of clips. It’s also possible to ‘audition’ different combinations of clips to make it easier to choose between multiple takes. The software also features improved tagging (including auto-analysis of clips) to make it easier to manage and locate the clips you want to use. Final Cut Pro X is available from the Mac App Store for $ 299/£179.

Apple releases RAW compatibility update

Apple has released a digital camera RAW compatibility update for Aperture 3 and iPhoto ’11. Update 3.6 extends RAW support to six additional cameras including the Canon Rebel T3/T3i, Olympus E-5 and Pentax K-5. It also addresses processing issues for four already supported cameras. The update is available for immediate download from Apple’s website.

Apple updates Aperture software and introduces iLife ’11

Apple has released an updated version of its Aperture raw-conversion and photo management software and has launched a new version of its iLife suite – iLife ’11. Available for immediate download, Aperture v3.1 fixes a number of bugs and adds compatibility with iLife ’11. The application suite comprises iPhoto, iMovie, iWeb, iDVD and Garageband, and is included with new Mac computers. Existing iLife users can upgrade to the newest version for .
