Microsoft PowerPoint 2010 – Change Default AutoRecover and Presentation File Locations

20 May

Change the default directory where PowerPoint 2010 presentations are saved as well as where AutoRecover files are kept.

By default, as with other Office 2010 applications, Microsoft PowerPoint 2010 defaults to the user Documents directory to save presentations. AutoRecover files, useful if PowerPoint 2010 or your system crashes before a document is saved, are placed in the user’s AppData directory. For example, on standard Windows 7 installations, documents default to the C:\ Users\ YOUR_USER_NAME\ Documents folder, and AutoRecover files are stored at C:\ Users\ YOUR_USER_NAME\ AppData\ Roaming\ Microsoft\ PowerPoint.

If you have multiple hard drives and/or partitions, you may have one designated to keep data files and documents separate from programs and your operating system. Thus, moving these default locations to the other hard drive or partition might prove quite useful. And here’s how to do so:…

Microsoft Word 2010 – Prevent Paste Options Button from Appearing

20 May

When pasting text into a Word 2010 document, hide the Paste Options button that tends to appear.

For the most part, when you paste text into a Microsoft Word 2010 document (unless the text has no formatting information), you will see a Paste Options button appear, labeled with “(Ctrl)”. Press the Ctrl key or click this button to access formatting options such as keeping the source formatting, merging the formatting, pasting only the text, and setting the default paste options.

If you do not frequently have to make formatting changes to pasted text, you might find this button annoying and wish it disabled. To do so:…

A photographer’s view of the allied offensive in Southern Afghanistan and a house so well insulated it doesn’t need a furnace. Related Link: nyti.ms
Video Rating: 5 / 5

Detective Kim (Park Yong-woo) is a relaxed and lazy cop, who approaches things his way and always in a calm manner. His cynicism doesn’t go well with his colleagues, but that’s nothing he is concerned about. A series of murders on little girls who are all from the same orphanage, is his sole focus of interest. A suspect is soon found: photographer Ryoo Jeong-ho (Kim Sang-kyung). Kim already met Ryoo on several occasions and even though the photographer prevented two crimes from happening, something just seems to be odd about him… Jeong-ho, who has to struggle with his past, has to take care of little Soo-yeon (Han Bo-bae) for his uncle. Kim finds out, that Soo-yeon grew up in the same orphanage as all the other victims, and so he keeps a close eye on her. However, soon he discovers that the photographer can’t be the culprit. Moreover, Detective Kim finds out that Jeong-ho seems to be able to see things others miss. The former “enemies” work together to protect little Soo-yeon, with whom Jeong-ho meanwhile shares a close father-daughter relationship, despite his initial emotionlessness towards her. But can the them of Kim and Ryoo catch the killer before he strikes again?

Microsoft Publisher 2010 – Hide Recent Publications List or Show More

02 May

For privacy, configure Publisher 2010 not to show the list of your recent publications. Or, show more of them.

By default, Microsoft Publisher 2010 displays a list of your recent publications when selecting “Recent” from the Backstage View. This lets you quickly access publications that you have previously edited, especially useful if you save documents on a wide array of folders and/or network locations.

If you find this feature useful and work on a large number of publications, you may wish Publisher 2010 to show more recent documents. On the other hand, if you are concerned about privacy you may wish Publisher 2010 to not show this information. To make either configuration change:…

Microsoft Excel 2010 – Change the Tab Color of a Worksheet

17 Mar

Tabs representing different worksheets in an Excel 2010 workbook can be colored for organizational purposes.

If you are editing a Microsoft Excel 2010 workbook containing multiple worksheets, you probably use the tabs at the bottom-left of the window to switch between them.

Instead of displaying all tabs in the same color, you might find it useful, especially if you have many tabs, to give them different colors. You might want to organize all worksheets related to a particular year in one color, or change tab colors representing P&L worksheets of particular quarters if the organization was in the red or black. You could also make every tab a different color for variety so you can tell people accounting is not boring….

Microsoft Word 2010 – Gain a Few Extra Pixels; Disable the Vertical Scroll Bar

01 Mar

Turning off Word 2010’s vertical scroll bar may make it easier to view/edit documents without having to scroll horizontally.

If you have a smaller monitor or zoom past 100% to view and edit your Microsoft Word 2010 documents, you may be forced to scroll horizontally as the entire page width cannot be viewed onscreen.

If you need just a few more pixels to keep from having to scroll through your documents horizontally, how about removing the vertical scroll bar? If you don’t need it to navigate through your documents via the mouse (remember Page Up and Page Down work as well as your cursor keys), hide it by doing the following:…

Microsoft Excel 2010 – Hide Recent Documents or Show More

08 Feb

Configure Excel 2010 to hide the list of recent documents for privacy, or show more of them.

As with other Office 2010 applications, Microsoft Excel 2010 keeps a list of recent workbooks, allowing you to directly access frequently-edited documents without having to navigate your computer or network drives. If you have workbooks located in a variety of locations, this Recent list may prove very useful.

While Excel 2010 by default displays the last 25 documents, if you work on many workbooks you may want to increase this number up to 50. On the other hand, if you are worried about privacy you may wish to disable this list altogether….

Microsoft Visio 2010 – Make It Easier to Select Multiple Shapes

08 Feb

When using a selection rectangle in Visio 2010, select objects even if the rectangle does not completely surround them.

When trying to select multiple shapes in a Microsoft Visio 2010 diagram by creating a selection rectangle, you might find the process tricky as Visio requires you to completely surround each shape for it to be added to the selection. This can especially be true if you are editing a diagram on a laptop and using a touchpad / trackpad or other non-mouse pointing device.

By making a simple tweak, you can add objects to the selection by surrounding only part of them with a selection rectangle. While this may cause inadvertent selections in some cases, you might find the ease in selecting a large group of objects to more than make up for that in the long run….
