NYC – Chelsea: Carolina Nitsch Contemporary Art – In Direction

A few nice visual art images I found:

NYC – Chelsea: Carolina Nitsch Contemporary Art – In Direction
visual art
In Direction, an installation by Richard Dupont, was the first exhbition of the artist at the Carolina Nitsch Contemporary Art Gallery, at 534 West 22nd Streeet.

The installation consists of three large figures cast in polyurethane surrounded by mirrored panels which transform the exhibition space into a quasi-virtual, interactive environment. Presented in the storefront Project Room, the installation suggests a staged experience, albeit an inverted one, with the activity of the street outside brought inside, and the room itself expanded into a four dimensional spatial riddle.

Standing just over life size, the three figures appear to be liquefying when seen from certain angles or camouflaged from others. Like a number of Dupont’s installations since 2005, they are based on a three dimensional digital scan of the artist’s body. Before being molded and cast in resin, the body model has been distorted using visual computer effects. Once translated into three dimensional sculptures, the figures appear to be shifting shape as the viewer moves around them.

Just Posted: Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX1 preview extended

28 Nov

Sony_RX1.jpg

Just Posted: an extensive update to our Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX1 preview. We’ve been working away towards a review of the RX1 that we received recently. With its full frame sensor and 35mm F2 lens, it’s a camera that’s generated a lot of excitement amongst photographers, so we wanted to publish more detail of its performance and behavior. We’ve added eight pages to the preview, including more detail about its handling and interface as well as our studio test shots, a sample gallery from the production camera and our first impressions of shooting with it.

NIKON D800 vs OLYMPUS OM-D E-M5 – SHOOTOUT VIDEO

28 Nov

Olympus’s new flagship Micro four thirds camera the OM-D E-M5 Versus Nikon’s Shiny new D800 Full frame shoooter. (& yes, dedicated reviews of both cameras are coming soon 😉 ) Olympus OM-D E-M5 with the fantastic M.Zuiko Digital ED 45mm F1.8 The Nikon D800 with the much lusted after Nikkor 85mm f/1.4G… It’s as close as makes no real difference an equivalent (effective) focal length FOV on each camera. (the D800 is full frame, and the E-M5 has a 2x crop factor, giving the 45mm lens an 35mm equivalent focal length of 90mm) Both set to record 1080@30P, using the Standard picture profiles on each, ISO set to 200, shutter & aperture set to full manual mode, and Focus S-AF. And cameras were recording each scene simultaneously, mounted to the same monopod (using a hot-shoe extension bar & appropriate adapters) This May not be a fair fight in stills mode, given the VAST difference in megapixel resolution… 16MP vs 36MP… But in VIDEO mode, where the play-ground is levelled as much as posisble, and with both cameras independently impressing video shooters in early testing & reviews… Well, it proved to be a very interesting head-to-head shootout indeed… What do you think? …

*Turn up your speakers so you can clearly hear the music! Listen with BOTH speakers (voiceovers are on the left side)* This video is part of a project created for Ms. Cordero’s Sophomore English Honors (Period 3) at Arcadia High School, Arcadia, California. The novel Candide is reviewed in the video up to the point before introducing El Dorado, where Candide meets an ideal land where the jewels are used to pave the roads. Martin and Candide (as well as other characters) then go through a series of travelling where they are plucked away of their wealth gained at El Dorado. Eventually, the characters are able to meet up again using Candide’s wealth, and live their life by farming. You are permitted to use this video for only educational purposes, but if you are presenting as a project I would highly suggest to make your own video. It is a fun process that makes one think what is actually important. _________________ Music Selections: -Rhapsody in Blue by George Gershwin- Cover/Performed by Richard Clayderman -Ballade No. 4 in F Minor, Op. 52 by Frederic Chopin- Performed by Yundi Li -Giants Dance At Midnight by Rich Smith -The Crying Spirit by Rich Smith -The Loveable Chipmunk by Rich Smith -The Raging Fire by Rich Smith Richard Clayderman’s performance is from his CD, Richard Clayderman- Concerto, while Yundi Li’s performance is from his CD, 14th International Frederick Chopin Piano Competition, and Rich Smith’s compositions are from his CD, The Giant Forest

Murillo, Museo de Bellas Artes de Sevilla
visual art
The Museum of Fine Arts of Seville or Museo de Bellas Artes de Sevilla is a museum in Seville, Spain, a collection of mainly Spanish visual arts from medieval period to the early 20th century, including a choice selection of works from the so-called Golden Age of Sevillian painting during the 17th century, such as Murillo, Zurbarán, Francisco de Herrera the younger, and Valdés Leal.
The museum was founded in 1839, after the desamortizacion or shuttering of religious monasteries and convents, collecting works from across the city and region. Originally, the site held the convent of the Order of the Merced Calzada de la Asunción, founded by St. Peter Nolasco during the reign of King Ferdinand III of Castile. Extensive remodeling in the early 17th century was led by the architect Juan de Oviedo y de la Bandera.
