  • Further Down The River | Zilker Botanical Gardens HD Timelapse Preview

    This video is comprised of around 6000 still images taken in June and September of 2010. This stubborn video has been in production since June 2010 and I finally got it all stitched together and looking good. I had a lot of trouble rendering this puppy correctly but I think that I learned enough about the inner workings of the software to counteract my anger about it. Making these time lapses are some of the most enjoyable things we’ve ever done. To sit alone or with your special someone in the garden early in the soft morning light with the company of a still pond and lotus blossoms makes everything feel right in the world. We had this song, Aqueous Transmission, in mind while we planned and captured the time lapse sequences. Just listening to it with your eyes closed makes you feel so peaceful. We wanted to convey that feeling in the video and create a tribute to one of our favourite songs. So as for the video: My computer at home sucks so bad that I wasn’t able to fully preview it. I’m not that happy with the quality in this version but meh, when I finish the whole thing it will be better. 🙂 If anyone has any tips for using Adobe Media Enocoder, I’d be delighted to get some tips.

  • What is geotagging – how to geotag photos with a GeoPic II a Nikon DSLR camera and Picasa

    www.customidea.com What is geotagging? It’s a question we often get asked by Nikon camera owners yet this area of photography is becoming very popular. Geo tagging, more often called ‘geotagging’ is the process of adding geotags to your photos. Geo tags, or ‘geotags’ are extra tags of data which include latitude longitude and altitude and together define a specific location. Wouldn’t it be great if all your Picasa or Photobucket images included the exact location they were taken? Well fortunately your favourite DSLR, for example the D200, D700 or D3 and many others already support geotagging and now, instead of buying an expensive Garmin and a long adaptor cable you can buy a direct connect geotagger — the GeoPic II. This great geotagger will geotag your pictures direct on the Nikon camera and straight into the EXIF data. Once the tags are there you can use your favourite photo managing software, for example Picasa, or Adobe Photoshop, or other software like Opanda, KUSO EXIF viewer, Nikon ViewNX, Apple Preview and JetPhoto Studio to use the tags. Typically photographers use the software to see their photos overlaid on a map which is a great way to display your pictures. This HD video shows just how easy it is to connect a GeoPic II to your Nikon camera and start geotagging your photos. It also shows how to see and use the geotags later in Picasa and Google Earth.

    Just Posted: Studio test images from the Pentax K-5 II and its low-pass-filter-free sister model, the K-5 IIs. We’ve shot studio test samples with Pentax’s latest 16MP DSLRs. Not only does this mean you can see the differences between the K-5 II and the ‘s’ variant but it allows you to compare them with the original K-5 or almost every camera we’ve tested in recent years. It also means you can download the Raw files from either camera to process to your own tastes.

  • When I Die : Lessons from the Death Zone

    In “When I Die” Philip Gould shares his thoughts and insights as he confronts his impending death from oesophageal cancer. How do we approach death whilst embracing life? How can we change the conversation around death and palliative care for the terminally ill? Please share this film and join the conversation #WhenIDie. Philip believed that for the terminally ill and those close to them, there can be moments of joy, resolution and inspiration just as intense as those of fear, discomfort and sadness. Filmed during the last 2 weeks of Philip’s life, this intimate portrait reveals his quest to find purpose and meaning in what he called “The Death Zone”. He had been diagnosed with cancer of the oesophagus in 2008 and was given three months to live in the summer of 2011. Philip Gould’s book, “When I Die: Lessons from the Death Zone” is published in the UK by Little Brown.
