We’ve updated our Canon EOS 5DS/5DS R First Impressions to include studio test samples from final production versions of the cameras. The 5DS and 5DS R share a 50MP full-frame CMOS sensor and are identical in every way except for one: the 5DS contains an anti-aliasing filter, while the 5DS R has a self-canceling filter. While we’ve previously tested a beta version of the 5DS R, we’ve finally been able to put final production versions of the two cameras through our studio. Read more

A commerical photographer accuses Taylor Swift of being a hypocrite, Swift’s management company responds
In case you missed it, Taylor Swift, one of the most successful commercial pop stars of all time, recently penned an angry Tumblr post aimed at the soon-to-be-launched streaming service Apple Music. She called for Apple to respect the rights of creatives. However, commercial photographer Jason Sheldon found this statement to be more than a little hypocritical. Read more

Samsung NX500 firmware upgrade improves autofocus and enhances video features
Samsung has released a firmware update for its NX500 mirrorless camera. Among other things, the update enhances autofocus performance in several areas, increases the 4K video bit rate to 70Mbps, and reads out a larger areas of the sensor for improved 1080/60p video quality. More details

Adobe Creative Cloud trials reset to offer preview of 2015 features
Adobe recently updated its Creative Cloud suite of software, and to give users a chance to test the new features it has reset its product trials. This includes trial versions of Illustrator CC, InDesign CC, and Photoshop CC. Users, even those who have previously taken advantage of Adobe’s 30-day free trial, can start a new trial by opening the software application and clicking ‘Update’. Read more

Final firmware Canon EOS 5DSR real-world samples posted
Last night the Northern Lights tip-toed farther south than they usually do, and many regions of North America not accustomed to seeing them were treated to a light show. In hopes of catching it we hopped in the car with the Canon EOS 5DSR and headed away from the city lights. Venus Optics launches Laowa 15mm F4, the world’s widest macro lens
Chinese lens manufacturer Anhui ChangGeng Optical Technology Company Limited has introduced what it describes as the world’s widest 1:1 macro lens. The Venus Optics Laowa 15mm F4 is designed for full frame sensor cameras and can focus down to just 12cm from the front element, and is equipped with a +/-6mm shift function for architectural work at normal focusing distances. The Canon EOS Rebel T6i (750D) bears quite the resemblance to its Rebel T6s (760D) sibling. It’s essentially the same model, down to the 24.2MP APS-C sensor and 19-point AF module.
