In 1987, American photojournalist Eve Arnold was interviewed about the photos she made of actress Marilyn Monroe. Marilyn trusted Arnold more than any other photographer, which resulted in many beautiful and intimate portraits, made between 1951 and 1962. On 17 June 1991, this half hour interview was broadcasted by the BBC (English spoken, no subtitles).

Eve took photos of Marilyn when she was very slim and a little heavier later on. I assume Eve is talking about the later on times, from 1958-1961, after which time MM was very slender again. In Eve’s book An Appreciation she says the same, and its to do with the bikini photos, what she calls the Botticelli poses, around 1958, a heavier Marilyn era.
She was attracted to intelligent men. She was too smart to marry someone as self-destructive as James Dean or Elvis Presley.
She had very often thick and unattractive legs, according to the state of her weight. When she was slim she was magnificient though….
She always gets married from the ugly ! Why she didn’t married Elvis or James Dean ?
This Eve is not making any nice remarks about Marilyn! Chubby leggs? Rubens?
Now there is one jaelous woman 😉 take it easy Eve: nobody is or will ever be as beautiful as Marilyn.
i read a article that she was in the mirror looking @ her self in the mirror & her guest for dinner that night had gone to find her after a while, found her & asked her what she was doing? and her answer was “im looking at her” cant imagine what being her was like. but she was beautiful
Eve says it all about poor Marilyn finding it difficult to sleep so over doing it abit with the sleeping pills..
Thank you Eve, for all the images and insights of Marilyn and so many others. Well done! Peace.
