One of LIB’s old retired workhorses. This bus features the Detroit Diesel 92 series 6V92TA engine with an Allison HTB-748 transmission. Even though the decision was made years ago to convert the entire fleet to CNG, I still believe that when the MTA Bus company took the wheel that they should’ve kept some of these. ***NOTE*** This recording is owned by Trevor Logan, Jr., and is from his transit media page, WWW.TTMG.ORG. Man this is so weird. I remember this distinct engine sound when I rode the Pat buses in Pittsburgh, PA lol. I used to imitate the sound of the engine when I was a kid. Thanks for uploading! It took me down memory lane!

Didn’t the 1997-98 CNG Orion V’s take over for the 1981 Grumman-Flxible 870s and some of the 1984 Flxible Metros, both of which had 8V71 Detroit Diesel engines?

Is this a Detriot Diesel?
I’m from New Orleans and our transit company called RTA(Regional Transit Authority) used to have these models until 2005 when Katrina struck. You can still see these models but not the ones from the early 90’s but from the mid 90′, just not like you did like talkin’ about it because the new generations are almost taking over this city.
Sad.

Yeah I know, Its so sad that Orion V got out of business almost 2 years ago otherwise LIB, Suffolk would’ve ordered more Orion Vs instead.

I think New Orleans RTA still got at least some of their 1991 Orion Vs as well with 1997-98s of same model. I grew up with my 1991 Orion Vs from Grand Rapids, Michigan (Retired in 2006 for dumb boring Gillig Advantages), they should’ve gotten the Orion VIIs instead.

My Favorite engine diesel noise on Orion Vs. So sad even Toronto TTC retired their 1991 Vs as well early this year.

@breberz: yes i guess it does but still those buses were in good shape. same goes for the oldes buses suffolk county transit has now that they are getting rid of. i think buses shud be retired because of thier age and condition not emissions unless theres an environment law or something that says buses can only have a certain amount of emissions, but i doubt that

Well, I guess that makes perfect sense then.

these buses were retired because of the emissions. suffolk transit is getting the new Orion VII low floor buses later this year too to replace the older ones they have. UGH buses arent made like they used to anymore! the glory days are definitely behind us

actually i think they replaced them all bc there were ads inside the buses in 2005 that said the CNG buses to replace diesel buses project was nearly complete etc. so i think they are all gone now

yeah i know LIB got rid of thiers from being used on the regular routes but i knew they still had them in their yard the last time i knew but maybe now they dont… when i rode LIB in 2005 when these buses were still around there were the ads inside the buses that said they were replacing all the diesel buses with CNG ones so since the MTA runs all the buses i think none of these run anymore
