the 3100 does not have an internal auto focus motor, nor does this lens so no it will not auto focus.

@vonstroke1; Unfortunately there are a lot of people out there that only care what their lens/camera combo look like. A prime example of this is last summer I was at a wakeboarding event and there was a man there with a Canon 5D. He had a large telephoto attached, at least a 700mm lens, and he took two pictures the whole time I was there, which was around three hours. The rest of the time he had it thrown over his shoulder.

this is awesome bro i was looking around amazon forever looking for the right zoom lens for my D5000. not only did you show me the lens but you showed it to me on my exact camera body. and showed me that it will focus! thanks alot man! subscribing. loving the d5000 vids
