Here’s a video showing how I created my own “air brush” system. It’s a quick solution for you when you are in a pinch! While I wouldn’t recommend it for long term use, or for detailed airbrushing, it’s a quick and easy way to make your own air brush effect when you need it! I also tried the Stampin’ Up markers and Bic Mark It with the air can, and was able to get great results, but the brush nibs on those pens means you have to hold it a little bit better, where the chisel tip on the copics was easier to hold to the tip….

Wouldn’t you cross contaminate the markers?

If you have the $60, good for you…if you do a lot of air brushing, or even the occasional…and it’s worth the $60 (or $30 with coupon), good for you. But some people want a quick solution for a one or two time a year project, and this will do it for them! There isn’t much more hassle involved then trimming the straw and holding your marker up….

come on.. you can pick up the airbrush kit for $60 at michaels with a 50% off coupon… not worth the hassle of this even for the occasional time.

Obviously this isn’t a solution for someone that plans on doing a lot of air brushing, as I state in the intro and throughout the video, this is a quick fix for someone that needs to do a little bit of airbrushing, but not enough to invest in an airbrush kit, which many hobby crafters do not do a lot of airbrushing!

No white, these are alcohol based markers, giving them semi transparency, allowing your to layer and blend colors. You need something with an opaque white, gelly roll pens or elmers painter markers work great for that.

There is an airbrush gun that you can purchase for the copic markers. I would highly recommend that. But for those that don’t have an air compressor or the gun that the markers fit in, this is a quick alternative for just a small project or two.

I used the straw that comes with the can of air, I just snipped the tip of it, so it’s at an angle.

I remember a marker company in the 80’s made an adaptor that the marker fit into for this same purpose.

I’ve been doing this type of thing for over 15 years now. I’m a C.N.C. Machinist in the Aerospace sector and I use a Sharpie marker (blue) for marking the metal to touch off tools. For hard to reach areas I use the Sharpie marker, but blow air across the tip from the shops air lines. Works great! I came up with this idea out of necessity around 15 years ago. Nice to see someone else thought of it too.
