Hey there, have you tried “photo SFX art” (do a Google search for it)? On their website you will find a useful free video explaining how you can make impressive photos. It made it easier for Joe to create pictures that have a wow-effect after you take a look at them. I hope it works for you as well.

this filters come in all sizes. just search them on ebay or amazon. Im actually not sure you could see if they have custom ones because I dont think that lens attached to the camera has any thread around the lens to put on the filter

Hello, I have a Nikon CoolPix P510, and I have come to the conclusion that is basically not customizable. Anyways I was wondering if this would work with my camera.

Hi there, are you familiar with “Photo SFXart Tricks” (just do a Google search for it…)? There you will find a smart free video showing the best way to shoot fantastic pictures. It made it easier for Daniel to shoot photographs that leave you with a jaw-dropping-effect after you look at them. Perhaps it will help you out too…

Oh does it? Sorry, I always thought my friends 18-55 had a 58mm – Unless its an older/newer model.

With filters you can still autofocus, with extension tubes you can’t

Most 18-55 lenses have a 58mm thread, Nikon and Canon I know do for sure 🙂

Take off your lens and torn around and it will be the same thin when u use filters)))

You’re welcome. I no longer have this camera, I sold it on eBay quite some time ago, but as for the Ringflash? I bought that on eBay, too. I’ve bought most if not all my cameras and camera equipment on eBay.

OK, First of all, thank you for your sharing. So where did you buy this from exactly? What is the model number for it? I also have a D90. And I am looking for a cheap basic ring flash that will get the job done. And it seems that this is a great candidate. So please let me know about details so that I can also buy one.

    Sony Users:

The Sony mount DRF-14 is not compatible with ANY Sony SLT and the A560, A580 dSLRs. Works fine on the older Sony’s.

Unfortunately sellers either don’t know, or don’t care. They never specify it in their advertising.

Way to go, LuminoBlue! If you’re albino or not, we’re not here to judge you but to enjoy the videos you, kindly, release! Nobody forced anyone to come here to watch and it is very rude to keep making comments about you instead of thanking you for your time and effort! Whoever doesn’t like you, should go somewhere else! Keep up the great work and improve on what you can. You’ve been doing the best you can, and that’s what counts!!!

BTW, I own a RayFlash and I use it with the off camera flash feature just to make cool effects like that. You take the flash off the camera, attached to the RayFlash, and put it a little ahead to show in the picture and it creates a ring of light around the subject. 🙂 Learned from a site I cannot remember now but if you go to RayFlash’s website, they have many tricks and tips there. Take care.

I’m not arguing or bashing your comment down but I don’t agree with you IN THIS PARTICULAR CASE. These kind of flashes can show on the picture physically, not vignetting, because they are like a tube and, when your lenses are zoomed out, it will be seen by the camera. Vignetting happens on certain lenses with filters, I agree, but it is a totally different situation. Vignetting is a deformity on the image because of the field of view on wide lenses. Hope it helps.

Got the same ring flash a while ago. It’s fully T.T.L and works well for macro. It also works well off the lens the vignetting is then no longer a problem. For the price of 79.99 euro it is what it is and works well. The same place sells extension tubes that are full wired up to keep all electronics working with the lens and camera. For around the same price, and work as they should. They sell for most cameras and for anyone thinking of starting macro well for that price it’s well worth it.

So I’m guessing this is purely TTL.

BTW. The guy who said the black circle was vignetting is wrong but I’m sure you know that.

  41. Pasanonic

    January 16, 2013 at 5:16 am

as you point out, this is meant to be used in macro. The problem you are having with the vignetting is down to both the lens and the flash.
My ringflash setup has a 52mm default screw which is fine for Nikon DX kit lenses but has horrific vignetting with my 67mm( filter size) lenses. The simple fact is that you have a ring flash that needs a greater diameter to work on medium to telephoto

Good video. Shows what these things are for and more importantly what they are not for.
