I was exactly in your position. I love photography and film making.. so i went for a gamble and got the D3100.. so far I love it, great image and video quality, great settings.. the only thing i dont like about it is theres no time lapse feature. Otherwise i completely recommend it. It was around $650 but it was on sale, i also got a 55-300mm lens so it was $950 total.. it does come with an 18-55 mm lens (i used it in this video) though. Hope this helps!
