Interactive Urban Light Art Installation Operated by Smart Phones

A five-story ‘veil’ of light situated along the river Main in Frankfurt, Germany billows and contracts according to users’ finger movements on their smart phones. ‘Photophore’ was installed at the Seven Swans restaurant, bar and hotel for the annual Luminale festival of light, inviting passersby to literally change the fabric of their urban environment.
A collaboration between Kollision, Martin Professional and light designers Katja Winklemann and Jochen Schröder, Photophore is an interactive media facade consisting of five illuminated panels mounted on the exterior of the building. It’s named for the light-emitting organ found within certain deep-water marine animals.
Onlookers scan a QR code on the side of the building, which accesses a website enabling them to control the installation. Swiping across the screen causes the ‘fabric’ to be pinched, pulled, pushed, poked and twisted.

Rezension: Ralph Larmann: „U2 – Die 360°-Tour“
Welcher Konzertfotograf träumt nicht davon: Zugang zu allen Konzertbereichen, der Band nahe kommen und auch noch im Privatjet ins Stadion geflogen werden. Der deutsche Fotograf Ralph Larmann hatte all diese Privilegien bei der 360°-Tour von U2.
Dabei entstanden außergewöhnliche Bilder, die im neuen Bildband „U2 – Die 360°-Tour – Um die Welt in 760 Tagen“ versammelt sind. Dass die Wahl für diesen Job auf Ralph Larmann fiel, ist dabei kein Zufall. Er dokumentierte bereits zahlreiche nationale und internationale Konzerte und begleitete schon in den 90er Jahren die Band.
Ein Glück, dass er 2011 nun abermals Teile der US- und Europa-Tour dokumentieren konnte. Aber wie hält man das laut dem Rolling Stone Magazine „mit Abstand extravaganteste Hi-Tech-Spektakel der Stadionrock-Historie“ fest? Larmann nutzte für seine Arbeit hauptsächlich zwei Leica S2-Kameras im digitalem Mittelformat, sowie passend zum Namen der Tour viele Kugelpanoramen, die die Einzigartigkeit der Bühne sehr gut festhalten.
Aber auch ganz klassische, teilweise schwarzweiße Konzertfotos kann man bei Larmann entdecken. Mir persönlich gefallen diese unaufgeregten Bilder etwas besser. Um jedoch die unglaubliche Größe des Konzerts und die Menge des Publikums festzuhalten, reicht ein einfaches Bild kaum aus. Man muss nur kurz bedenken, dass über 7 Millionen Menschen die 110 Konzerte besuchten. Ralph Larmann dokumentierte zudem nicht nur das Konzert an sich auf vielfältige Weise, sondern auch den Auf- und Abbau der beeindruckenden Bühne.
In dem Buch „U2 – Die 360°-Tour – Um die Welt in 760 Tagen“ sind über 180 Fotos von Larmann zu sehen. Teilweise einzeln auf einer ganzen Seite, oft etwas kleiner und von Texten begrenzt, selten auch auf einer Doppelseite. Insgesamt ist die Darstellung der Bilder eine gute Mischung, auch wenn einem als Fotograf die Bilder natürlich nie groß genug sein können. Neben den Fotos enthält das Buch auch technische Studien und die Bühnenentwürfe.
Das Fotobuch ist vor allem für Musik- und insbesondere U2-Fans interessant, aber auch Konzertfotografen können viel Inspiration aus den Fotos schöpfen. Die Texte im Buch stammen vom englischen Journalisten Dylan Jones und sind mir persönlich etwas zu überschwänglich, geben jedoch einen guten Einblick in die Tournee, persönliche Informationen zur Band und es werden ein paar kleine Anekdoten erzählt.
Das 256 Seiten starke Hardcoverbuch ist im Hannibal-Verlag erschienen und hat in etwa A4-Format. Die deutsche Ausgabe kostet 39,99 € und kann unter anderem über Amazon* erworben werden.

I got it working the 2nd time but then half way through the emulator crashed. I then tried 99999999999999999 more times and it still did not boot. Then this morning it just RANDOMLY WORKS… I was up till, like, 5 AM trying to get this game finished. WITH THAT OUT OF THE WAY, I hope you guys enjoy it. 🙂

The gardens are not only a botanical haven, and a quiet oasis on the outskirts of a modern European City, they also offer a challenging venue which gives the artist the rare opportunity of realising large scale work. It also gives the visitor an opportunity to ramble and explore, sometimes finding sculptures in the most unusual places. The sculptures are displayed throughout the gardens, ponds, Great Palm House, and Curvilinear Range, with the smaller works exhibited in the gallery above the visitors’ centre.
