Lens maker Zeiss has written a blog post about its relationships with other manufacturers – specifically its partnership with Sony. The post sheds some light on exactly what that little blue logo on your lens can mean. The blog post itself appears to have been written by the marketing department, but reading between the lines gives us a better idea of how its relationship with Sony works. Read more

Die Marke Zeiss steht bei Objektiven ja schon seit jeher für Prestige und Qualität. Mein 50 mm f/1.4 Planar zaubert den meisten Fotografen sofort ein neidisches Lächeln auf das Gesicht. Der Effekt kommt natürlich unter anderem auch davon, dass die normalen Zeiss-Linsen im Preissegment einer typischen Canon-L-Linse liegen, also jenseits von 1.000 € beginnen (mal abgesehen vom oben genannten 50mm f/1.4). Vor allem bekommt man bei Zeiss aber auch einfach entsprechend gute Technik

Zeiss offers full-frame E-mount ‘Batis’ 25mm F2 and 85mm F1.8 lenses

Zeiss has revealed two new full-frame lenses for Sony’s E-mount system, the Batis 2/25 and 1.8/85. They offer autofocus, and are the first Zeiss-produced FE-style lenses to do so. Each lens barrel contains an OLED displaying focus distance and depth of field. A linear motor AF drive keeps operation quiet, and both lenses are sealed against dust and moisture. Read more

Sony updates 24-70 and 16-35mm A-mount Zeiss lenses with improved AF and image quality

As promised last November, Sony has announced two new full-frame A-mount lenses. Compared to their 2008-vintage predecessors the Vario-Sonnar T* 16-35mm F2.8 ZA SSM II and 24-70mm F2.8 ZA SSM II feature improved image quality, less ghosting and flare, and a four-fold improvement in subject tracking speed, according to Sony. Another addition are seals that should make these lenses dust and water resistant. More details

Sony Zeiss Distagon T* FE 35mm F1.4 ZA real-world samples gallery posted

Sony announced three new FE primes yesterday, including a 28 f/2, a 35mm f/1.4 and a 90mm f/2.8 macro. We got our hands on the Zeiss Distagon T* FE 35mm f/1.4 and shot with it around Seattle. It features a 9-blade circular aperture and a Direct Drive SSM focus system. Check out our samples gallery

Sony rolls out Zeiss FE 16-35mm F4 wide angle zoom and HVL-F32M flash

Sony has announced the Vario-Tessar T* FE 16-35mm F4 ZA OSS for its E-mount interchangeable lens cameras, as well as the HVL-F32M flash and XLR-K2M XLR audio adaptor kit. The 16-35mm is the fifth full-frame zoom for Sony’s Alpha 7 series. Read more

Zeiss introduces ‘no distortion’ Otus 1.4/85mm

Zeiss has announced a new fast mid-telephoto prime to join last year’s widely acclaimed 1.4/55 lens in the Otus range. Due out in the middle of this month in Canon EF (ZE) and Nikon F (ZF.2) mounts, the new Zeiss Otus 1.4/85 is a manual focus lens claimed to offer exceptional performance even when used wide open on full frame cameras. Read more
