Ultimate Wooden House Made of Jenga-Like Stacked Beams

27 Dec

[ By Steph in Architecture & Houses & Residential. ]

Jenga House 1

Explore the seemingly endless platforms and hidden nooks of this Jenga-like house, conceived as an example of “ultimate wooden architecture” by Sou Fujimoto Architects. Located in Kumamoto, Japan, ‘Final Wooden House’ consists of massive wooden blocks randomly stacked together with irregularly shaped openings covered in glass.

Jenga House 2

The architects were inspired by primitive conditions before architecture, like cave dwellings, where humans made the most of the surroundings as they found them.

Jenga house 3

Forget conventional rooms and staircases – this home is like a massive playhouse, requiring the inhabitants to climb from one block to another. The wooden blocks offer all manner of supports for various activities, but you’ll have to use your imagination to determine just how to use each one.

Jenga house 4

Of course, climbing around inside this minimalist jungle gym requires care, an able body, and perhaps a hard hat. Getting from one area to another in the dark might be an intimidating task. The house may not be terribly practical, but what it lacks in livability, it makes up for in pure fun.

An around-the-world time lapse journey celebrating our Sacred Earth. Six years in the making… seven continents… 24 countries. Photographed & Edited by Sean F. These images of our Sacred Earth set to music are my way of sharing some of the magic I’ve experienced along the way… “Terra Sacra” ~ Latin for Sacred Earth. Terra Sacra Time Lapses is a short film featuring remote landscapes and ancient monuments from around the globe. These images were photographed during my assignments and personal travels between 2006-2012. I’ve combined my favourite shots from these trips into non-narrative film that touches on a theme close to my heart: Sacred Earth. The visuals are driven by an original score by composer Roy Milner (roymilner.com). The six-minute film is a journey through three distinct Acts: (I) Primordial Earth (II) Past meets Present and (III) Eternal Universe. This film is a personal project to share the beauty and awe I witnessed at these locations. I hope viewers will be moved by the intangible power of our Terra Sacra. Quintessential Conversion: The Ultimate Warehouse Loft

25 Oct

[ By Steph in Architecture & Houses & Residential. ]

A historic 1880′s warehouse in Melbourne, Australia has been converted into a stunning luxury home with high ceilings, exposed red bricks walls and dramatic archways. The addition of new wood floors, white drywall and a modern kitchen make the space livable without overpowering it.

The renovated apartment is located in ‘Leicester House’, a five-story Neo-Gothic building in downtown Melbourne with deep cornices and detailed Florentine arches on the exterior. Most of the spaces within it are still in use as offices.

While many aficionados of warehouse conversions would likely prefer to see less carpeting and more modern furnishings, the space itself exudes all the historic charm that you could wish for in a building of this age, particularly in the ceiling and the brick walls.

Rustic, recycled, modern and minimalist – apartment remodels come in all varieties, whether they’re redesigned from an out-of-date state or completely converted from something else. Check out 9 more amazing apartment designs and cool condo plans, and 11 lofty additions to urban rooftops.
