This week’s photography challenge topic is TRANSPORT!

Tuktuk Panning Using a Slow Shutter Speed to a Create Sense of Motion

Your photos can include anything includes transport. It could be old decaying transport, trains, buses, scooters, bikes, cars etc. You may want to do some panning or long exposures. They can be color, black and white, moody or bright. You get the picture. Have fun, and I look forward to seeing what you come up with!

Fast-Flipping Flybike Folds for Easy Transport in Seconds

Pull up on the center of this electric bicycle’s frame and the whole thing instantly folds in half, making it easy to tote the smart-phone-connected bike virtually anywhere in the city. The Gi ‘FlyBike’ aims to revolutionize urban commuting with ultimate portability, zero maintenance requirements and an electric system that helps riders ascend tough hills. It’s crafted from ultra-lightweight aircraft grade aluminum, weighing in at just 37 pounds.

The three speed assistance propelling motor gets 64 kilometers (39.7 miles) per charge and can sync with both Androids and iPhones, offering up a GPS tracking system, hands-free navigation system and smart-lock anti-theft system. It’s got full-size 26” wheels, anti-puncture tires that still provide a comfortable ride, and a “trousers-friendly” non-grease belt drive.

You can charge your phone while you’re riding, and smart lights come on automatically after dark when the bike is in use. The FlyBike achieves a top speed of 15mph on the highest level of electric assistance, but you can go faster by pedaling if you’re not in a heavily-trafficked urban area. It takes about four hours to fully charge the battery using an ordinary power outlet.

A mobile app lets you control the lights, lock the bike automatically, loan it to a friend and keep tabs on its location. You can program it to lock automatically when it detects that your phone is 10 feet away from the folded bike.The Gi FlyBike is currently raising funds for production on Kickstarter, and the rewards that’ll get you one of your own start at $ 1,990.

Transport: Weekly Photography Challenge

This week your photographic challenge is to shoot and share a photo or two on the theme of transport.

Feel free you take any approach you like – you can photograph a car, bus, plane, bike, horse and cart, skateboard, train, hand glider…. if you travel with it you can photograph it.

Feel free also to shoot it from inside the transport, outside the transport, with it moving or at a stand still… it’s totally up to you!

Can’t wait to see what you come up with this week!

Once you’ve taken your ‘TRANSPORT’ image and have upload it to your favourite photo sharing site either share a link to it or – embed it in the comments using the our new tool to do so.

Cloud Station: Floating Helium Roof for Ukraine Transport Hub

A train station envisioned for the town of Sevastopol in Ukraine seems to be perpetually covered in clouds, topped with a light, helium-lifted structure inspired by airships. ‘Under the Cloud‘ consists of a passenger terminal building and a buoyant freeform canopy that hovers over the green roof of the main building.

The canopy shell has an aluminum frame with longitudinal and transverse trusses, the helium gas held inside a rigid framework in bags. With the guy lines securing it, it really does seem as if it could lift away into the sky at any moment.

Says designer Arthur Kupreychuk, “The supporting structure of the canopy is similar to the structure of an airship. The canopy strives upward by buoyancy forces, if its average density is less than the density of the atmosphere.”

What’s the purpose of this canopy? Judging by the designer’s other projects, it may just be for fun. Kupreychuk previously designed The Draft Parking Lot with the Car Service Station, another airship-inspired structure “conceived as the embodiment of the boundless creative thought of an architect, who often must try to restrict it and leave it unfulfilled.” This concept won the distinction of being “the most surreal project designed in ArchiCAD” in 2011.
