C&A Marketing, a Polaroid licensee that makes the Cube action cameras, has sued GoPro over its newly introduced Hero4 Session camera. The new GoPro model is cube-shaped and resembles Polaroid’s own Cube and Cube+ action camera models, allegedly infringing upon C&A’s design patent. Read more

Photographer sues Nike over rights to Jordan ‘Jumpman’ logo
In 1984, photographer Jacobus Rentmeester photographed a then college-enrolled Michael Jordan for Time Magazine. The image was later licensed and ultimately reshot by Nike, who eventually used the reshot version as the basis for their Jordan ‘Jumpman’ logo. In an article on the PPA website, the organization claims Walmart is ‘bullying’ a small Arkansas photographic studio. The Walton family wants intellectual property rights to photographs a small photography studio took of the family before Walmart grew into one of the biggest retailers in world. Nikon sues Sakar for infringement with Polaroid iM1836 Android camera
Nikon Inc. has announced a lawsuit against Sakar International Inc. over the design of the Polaroid iM1836, a planned Android camera that bears a resemblance to one of the Nikon 1 series of mirrorless cameras. Announced this morning in a Japanese language press release on Nikon’s Japanese website, the lawsuit was filed in the US District Court for the Southern District of New York. The lawsuit seeks an injunction against both manufacture and sale of the Polaroid iM1836 digital camera.
