CES 2013: High-resolution screen advances were on display at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas this week, with everyone from tablet makers to television manufacturers pushing pixel count further than ever before. Sharp stole the show, in terms of screen resolution technology by exhibiting a 85-inch 8K LCD screen prototype. Co-developed with Japanese broadcaster NHK, the UHDTV screen offers 16 times the resolution of a standard 1080 TV and would allow you to display a 33MP image without downscaling or cropping.

The official opening reception – Friday, November 9, 2012 from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM.

Presented in four parts – JuarezLibyaSouth Sudan and Rio – Witness focuses on three determined photojournalists: Eros Hoagland, who explores the gang- and drug-related violence in both Juarez, Mexico and Rio de Janeiro, Brazil; Michael Christopher Brown, who chronicles escalating ethnic tensions in the wake of Muammar Gaddafi’s ouster last year in Libya; and Véronique de Viguerie, who follows the “Arrow Boys” and their struggle against General Kony in South Sudan.

"Yes I downloaded the videos. THEY ARE AWESOME!!! I learned so much I think my brain is going to explode.

Now I need to get the LR4 video to see how much of Lightroom 4 I don’t know".

Polaroid shows remarkably phone-like Android-based 3x zoom camera

13 Jan

CES 2012: Lifestyle photo brand Polaroid has been showing an Android-based camera with a 3x zoom on its stand. The company insists the device is a camera or, when pushed, says it can be thought of as a small tablet computer with a camera. This is despite its apparent similarity to a smartphone shown by Taiwanese contract manufacturer Altek late last year. The 16MP Wi-Fi compatible Polaroid camera features a 3x, 6.5-19.5mm lens and 1/2.33″ CCD sensor to give a 36-108mm equivalent lens range.

Panasonic shows 12-35mm F2.8 and 35-100mm F2.8 concept lenses for Micro Four Thirds

12 Jan

PanasonicConceptLenses.jpg

CES 2012: Panasonic is showing mockups of two large-aperture zoom lenses for Micro Four Thirds. The Panasonic stand plays host to mockups of a 12-35mm F2.8 and a 35-100mm F2.8 lens, prominently badged ‘Concept’ lenses. Next to the models is a lens roadmap confirming the company’s intentions to build a 12-35mm (24-70mm equiv) and 35-100 (70-200mm equiv) ‘X’ grade zooms, but with a note that the maximum apertures are ‘to be determined.’ The diagram appears to suggest both lenses will arrive later in 2012.

Panasonic shows prototype of twin-lens 3D HD compact camera

31 Aug

Panasonic has said it will develop a twin-lens 3D digital camera and has unveiled a prototype at the IFA consumer electronics trade show in Germany. The camera uses twin image-stabilized 4x folded-optics zoom lenses (much like the examples in the company’s FP series cameras, we suspect). As well as allowing 3D HD videos to be shot, you can also choose to use one lens for shooting 2D still images while the other lens simultaneously shoots video. Image stabilization will be available whether shooting stills or video and regardless of the number of dimensions being captured.
