Longsys launches Lexar-branded 1TB SDXC card

10 Jan

Longsys, under the Lexar brand name, has announced the Lexar Professional 633x SDXC UHS-I card with 1TB of storage.

The Class 10 UHS-I card has a theoretical maximum read speed up to 95MB/s and write speed up to 70MB/s, but it’s only guaranteed a sustained write speed of 30MB/s as noted by the V30/U3 rating. This means the write speeds might peak at 70MB/s, but the card certainly can’t sustain them, otherwise it’d be labelled as a V60 card.

The card, which is also available in sizes down to 16GB, is capable of operating from 0° to 70° C (32° to 158°F) and being stored from -25° to 85° C (-13° to 185°F) in humidity levels between 5 and 95 percent. Each card comes with a limited lifetime warranty.

The 1TB Lexar Professional 633x SDXC UHS-I card is available now and retails for $ 499.99.

Adata launches V90 SDXC cards in 64, 128 and 256GB capacities

18 Apr

Adata has become one of the first companies to support the V90 video speed class with its Premier ONE series of SD cards that guarantee 90MB/s sustained read and write: the key specification for stable video capture.

Fast UHS-II cards already exist, promising around 290MB/s peak write speed, but these are often rated as U3 speed, meaning they don’t guarantee to be able to reliably write for extended periods at anything over 30MB/s. This means you’re taking a risk if you try to shoot with a camera that writes any faster than this (240 megabits per second).

The V90 speed class, announced in 2016, promises three times that performance, allowing up to 720MBps capture. The latest cards are also some of the first to rely on 3D NAND technology, one of the approaches that will be needed to allow cards to get larger and faster.

Pricing was not available at time of publication.

SanDisk 1TB SDXC card prototype unveiled at Photokina

20 Sep

Western Digital has introduced the first ever 1TB SDXC card, doing so under its recently acquired SanDisk brand. Though the card will not be available on the market anytime soon, the prototype does serve to highlight the next level in SD card capacity. This isn’t the first time SanDisk has unveiled a high-capacity prototype at Photokina; in 2014, the company unveiled its then-prototype for a 512GB SDXC card.

‘Just a few short years ago the idea of a 1TB capacity point in an SD card seemed so futuristic – it’s amazing that we’re now at the point where it’s becoming a reality,” said Stargate Studios CEO Sam Nicholson. ‘…High-capacity cards allow us to capture more without interruption, streamlining our workflow, and eliminating the worry that we may miss a moment because we have to stop to swap out cards.’

Though Western Digital is showcasing the prototype at Photokina, it has not stated when it anticipates the card being available commercially, nor what consumers can expect to pay.
