Samsung unveils new curved smartphone, the ‘Galaxy Round’

After months of teasing and speculation, Samsung has finally announced its curved smartphone. The Galaxy Round is a 5.7-inch device with a curved 1080p, AMOLED display. Like its Galaxy S4 and Not 3 predecessors, the Galaxy Round features a 13-megapixel camera. The Galaxy Round’s unique shape allows for a different user experience. According to Samsung, the phone is more comfortable to hold than flat phones and users can take advantage of some features unique to the curved device. Samsung announces new 13MP camera unit with optical image stabilization

Samsung has revealed a brand new 13MP smartphone camera unit with optical image stabilization and improved low light performance. Samsung’s press release doesn’t specifically name any devices that the new camera is slated to appear in, but it’s safe to assume that we’ll see it next year in the Galaxy S5 and Note 4. Samsung announces pricing for Android-based Galaxy NX camera

As the first hybrid smartphone and interchangeable lens camera, the Samsung Galaxy NX certainly cut a unique profile when we first looked at it in June. The Galaxy NX merges the features of Samsung smartphones, including a huge 4.8-inch touch LCD and 3G/4G/Wi-Fi connectivity, with a NX-mount ILC with a 20.3MP APS-C sensor, hybrid AF system, and 8.6 fps burst mode. At long last, the Galaxy NX has been given a price: $ 1,599.99 body only, or $ 1,699.99 bundled with an 18-55mm lens.

New printer concepts from Samsung look to lower-cost and sustainable materials as a way to reduce prices and environmental impact. Receiving recognition at the 2013 International Design Excellence Awards, these three designs take a page from Ikea’s flat-pack, assemble-it-yourself playbook, using materials like corrugated cardboard and Polyethylene plastic to create printers with exteriors that are easier to manufacture. DxO Optics Pro 8.3 with Samsung NX, Go Pro, and smartphone support

DxO Labs has released version 8.3 of its Optics Pro RAW conversion and image correction software, adding support for the Samsung NX system, GoPro cameras, and the most popular smartphones. The Samsung models added are the NX10, NX11, NX20, NX100, NX200, NX210, and NX300, along with the EX-1 and EX-2 compacts. The GoPro HERO3 line (Black, Silver, and White editions), and the HD HERO2 are also now covered, along with the iPhone 4, 4S and 5, and the Samsung Galaxy S3 and S4 smartphones. DxOMark investigates Samsung NX cameras and lenses

Our friends and collaborators over at DxOMark have been investigating Samsung’s NX system, and have recently published reviews of the NX210 and NX300 cameras, alongside an article covering how the company’s lenses measure up in comparison to those from the Sony NEX system. Other reviews on the site this week include lens tests on Nikon super-telephoto primes, an assessment of the Sony RX100 II’s new back-illuminated CMOS sensor, and the first installment of a multi-part article looking into which lenses score best on the Canon EOS 6D. It combines a 20MP DSLR-style mirrorless camera body with the vast touchscreen and connectivity of a smartphone, giving a high-IQ camera with 3G, 4G LTE and Wi-Fi connectivity as well as GPS and GLONASS-compatible positioning. Samsung announces Android-powered Galaxy NX 20MP mirrorless camera

Samsung has announced the Galaxy NX: the world’s first mirrorless interchangeable lens camera running the Android operating system. The Galaxy NX takes a 20.3 megapixel, SLR-style mirrorless camera and adds 3G, 4G LTE and Wi-Fi, connectivity and Android 4.2 (Jelly Bean). The camera sports a gigantic 4.8″ HD LCD touchscreen – with which you’ll control nearly all camera functions. The Galaxy NX will be available sometime this summer for an undisclosed price.

Samsung releases significant firmware update for NX300

Samsung has released firmware version 1.2 for its NX300 interchangeable lens camera. The biggest improvement is autofocus quality, though Samsung has not disclosed what kind of improvement to expect. The update also adds new touchscreen features, a microphone sensitivity adjustment feature, auto image rotation, and a minimum shutter speed for Auto ISO. Several bugs are also fixed.
