Just posted: Our Sigma 18-35mm F1.8 DC HSM preview samples gallery

We’ve been lucky enough to get our hands on an early pre-production sample of one of the most anticipated lenses of the year, the Sigma 18-35mm F1.8 DC HSM, and bring you a gallery of full-resolution sample images shot with it. This lens is the fastest zoom ever made for SLRs and, in principle, should provide the depth-of-field control and low-light image quality on an APS-C DSLR that you’d get using an F2.8 zoom on 35mm full-frame. We’ve shot a samples gallery including a variety of subjects, using a range of apertures, focal lengths and subject distances, to try to give an initial flavor of how the lens performs.

Olympus PEN E-P5 preview updated with more impressions and samples

We’ve had a chance to take another look at an ‘initial production’ Olympus PEN E-P5, and have updated our preview with some more first impressions and image samples. Olympus has only allowed us to publish downsampled images, but we’ve still been able to get more of an idea of how well the camera works. We hope to get our hands on a production E-P5 that we can use to shoot full size images towards the middle of June, but until then click through for our preview to whet your appetite.

Just posted: Pentax MX-1 Preview Samples

We’ve just posted a gallery of real-world samples from Pentax’s flagship compact camera, the MX-1. Announced earlier this year the MX-1 offers a 12MP backlit CMOS sensor, and a fast F1.8-2.5 lens which spans an equivalent focal range of 28-112mm. We wrote a detailed hands-on preview back in January and we’re working on putting the camera through our usual gamut of studio and real-world testing. For now, we hope you enjoy this small gallery of samples which – if nothing else – proves that the sun does occasionally come out in Seattle.

Just posted: Our samples gallery shot using a production Canon EOS 100D and EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM. In this gallery we’re aiming to give an idea of the image quality possible from Canon’s latest miniature SLR with its new, silent-focusing kit zoom. We’ve also quicky tested its refocusing ability during movie recording. Click through to see the sample images and movies.

Just posted: Canon EOS 100D / Rebel SL1 preview samples gallery

Just posted: Our Canon EOS 100D (Rebel SL1) preview samples gallery. We’ve been lucky enough to get our hands on a pre-production sample of Canon’s latest miniaturised SLR, and have assembled a quick samples gallery to give an idea of how it performs. We’ve shot using the EF-S 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM and EF 40mm f/2.8 STM pancake lenses, and aimed to cover a variety of subjects and lighting conditions. The pre-production camera used offers ‘Beta’ standard image quality, so may not fully reflect the final image quality (although it’s unlikely to be radically different).

Just posted: Nikon Coolpix A real-world samples gallery

We’ve just posted a selection of real-world samples shot with the Nikon Coolpix A. The Coolpix A offers a 16MP APS-C sensor in a genuinely compact body, mated to a 28mm equivalent F2.8 retractable lens. We’ve put together a 21-image gallery of images shot in a variety of situations and at a range of apertures. Click through to see how it performed.

Nikon D7100 preview updated with studio scene and real world samples

We’ve just received a reviewable Nikon D7100, and have been lucky enough to get access to pre-release raw support from Adobe, which has allowed us to add Nikon’s newest 24MP DSLR to our studio comparison database. We’ve also taken advantage of our first opportunity to shoot ‘real world’ images with the D7100 and its 18-105 kit lens at a range of ISO sensitivities. Fujifilm X100S Real-world Samples

We’ve just added a 39-image sample gallery to our preview of the Fujifilm X100S. The X100S is the sucessor to the X100, one of our favorite cameras of the past couple of years, but one that was not without its share of quirks. The X100S features a new 16MP X-TRANS sensor, a hybrid AF system with on-sensor phase-detection autofocus and numerous operational improvements. We previewed the new camera earlier this year and we’ll be adding more content to that as we work towards a full review but for now, click through for a link to our gallery of real-world samples.

Panasonic GH3 hands-on preview updated with test data and samples

We’ve just added more pages of content to our hands-on preview of the 16MP Panasonic GH3, Panasonic’s flagship GH-series Micro Four Thirds camera. These pages represent our progress so far towards the completion of a full review. We’ve added our full complement of studio tests, including resolution, noise and dynamic range, a small gallery of ‘real world’ samples and updated first impressions. Just Posted: Sony NEX-3N hands-on preview with real world samples. We’ve had a chance to use and shoot with a NEX-3N and, now that Sony US has announced the camera, we can publish our look at the latest model. The 3N is the fourth entry-level NEX camera and the smallest so far. Despite this, it includes most of the features of its predecessors. We look at what has been added and what it lacks, compared to last year’s NEX-F3.
