Canon EF-S 35mm F2.8 IS STM Macro sample gallery

Canon’s new EF-M 35mm F2.8 IS STM Macro comes in at a reasonable $ 349 MSRP, and offers 1:1 magnification (very close to the front of the lens, admittedly), a claimed four stops of image stabilization and the stepper motor should work great for when you switch from stills to video. We’ve sampled it for both macro and general photography, as its 56mm equivalent focal length makes it a good option for Canon APS-C users who are looking for a modern ‘normal’ lens. Fujifilm GF 32-64mm F4 R LM WR sample gallery

The Fujifilm GF 32-64mm F4 R LM WR is the first non-prime lens available for the company’s new digital medium format system. Offering about a 25-51mm equiv. field of view, this lens is incredibly versatile for a variety of shooting scenarios. Not only that, it is also dust- and weather-sealed, handy for a windy day at the beach, being sprayed by surf and sand. Click the link below for samples. Sony FE 100-400mm F4.5-5.6 GM sample gallery

With the FE 100-400mm F4.5-5.6 GM lens, Sony is seeking to fill a super-telephoto gap in its lens lineup with the announcement of the a9 sports camera. It may not have the fast aperture of competitors’ telephoto primes, but the zoom range is versatile, and the lens looks to be very sharp with pleasing out-of-focus backgrounds, plus it comes with a very close focusing distance to boot.

We’ll be updating our gallery with more sports oriented samples on Sony’s a9 as we begin fully testing that camera, so stay tuned! In the meantime, enjoy some horses jumping and scenes from the El Capitan State Beach outside of Santa Barbara, CA.

Sony FE 16-35mm F2.8 GM sample gallery

The photographic ‘holy-trinity’ is an oft-described concept for the professional wedding, event and sports photographer. You have three cameras dangling from three straps around your body (and hopefully a chiropractor to help you with the aftereffects). These include cameras strapped to a 16-35mm (ish) F2.8 lens, a 24-70mm F2.8 and a 70-200mm F2.8 to make sure you don’t miss a thing.

With the new a9, Sony is aiming at the high-end sports photographer market, so their new FE 16-35mm F2.8 GM is a natural next step to appeal to the wide-angle enthusiasts within that crowd. See how it stacks up in our preliminary samples gallery.

All images are processed through Adobe Camera Raw using a near-final build of that software where applicable for the new Sony a9 camera. Sharpness and noise reduction settings are left to default, the Adobe Standard color profile was used, and minor adjustments were made to white balance, highlights, shadows, whites and blacks. Due to bandwidth constraints, only JPEG images processed using the above settings are available at this time. Raw images will be coming shortly.

Initial sample images from the new Olympus TG-5

We had a little bit of time to try out the new Olympus Tough TG-5 prior to its launch, in and around the waters of Seattle. As the weather improves, we’ll look to update this gallery with additional underwater samples and a range of samples from various lighting conditions. For now, wet your whistle with these.

The Fujifilm GF 120mm F4 Macro R LM OIS WR is one of three lenses currently available for the company’s medium format camera system (See our Fujifilm GFX 50S review). Stabilized and weather-sealed, it is intended for a wide range of uses including close-up work, portraiture or simply as a short tele for walking around. It offers a 95mm equiv. field-of-view and features a maximum magnification of 1:2.

Hasselblad X1D final production sample gallery

Of the recent digital medium format releases, one could argue the Hasselblad X1D carries the most-revered name. Based around a similar 44 x 33mm sensor found in the Pentax 645Z and Fujifilm GFX-50S, it offers the most ‘portability’ of the three, especially when coupled with its smaller leaf shutter lenses. At the market: Panasonic GH5 sample video

We’ve been hard at work testing the new Panasonic GH5, and while we put the finishing touches on our review, we wanted to share a video we shot with the camera at Seattle’s Pike Place Market.

The video was recorded in UHD 4K with the GH5’s 4:2:2 10-bit color settings. To capture the wide dynamic range in many of the scenes, we filmed using VLog gamma and used a VLog to Rec.709 LUT as a starting point for color grading. We also wanted to see how well the GH5’s white balance worked, so the entire video was captured using auto WB, and we haven’t made any white balance corrections, allowing you to see how the camera did in this regard. Audio was recorded using the built-in microphones.

Canon EOS Rebel T7i / EOS 800D Sample Gallery

We’ve posted an assortment of photos from Canon’s EOS Rebel T7i / 800D, which is the midrange camera in Canon’s lower-end DSLR lineup. The T7i features a 24MP APS-C sensor with Dual Pixel autofocus, fully articulating LCD and snappy DIGIC 7 processor.

It’s Spring here in Seattle, so expect plenty of flower photos!
