Sigma 40mm F1.4 Art sample gallery

Sigma holds its Art series lenses to a high standard, so our interest was piqued when the company’s CEO Kazuto Yamaki described the 40mm F1.4 as a ‘reference’ lens for the entire Global Vision range. While we had a chance to shoot with a pre-production model at Photokina, we were eager to really put the 40mm to work when a full production lens rolled into the office. Take a look at how it performed.

Fujifilm XF 8-16mm F2.8 R LM WR sample gallery

22 Nov

$ (document).ready(function() { SampleGalleryV2({“containerId”:”embeddedSampleGallery_0216755794″,”galleryId”:”0216755794″,”isEmbeddedWidget”:true,”selectedImageIndex”:0,”isMobile”:false}) });

The Fujifilm XF 8-16mm F2.8 R LM WR promises to appeal to everyone from landscape to architectural photographers. It has 11 points of weather sealing, fast and quiet autofocus, and a field curvature correction element that adjusts according to focal length to reduce the curvature that often occurs in wide angle lenses. Does it live up to expectations? We’ve been shooting everywhere from the city streets to the Canadian Rockies to test it out.

Nikon’s D3500 DSLR is one of the best camera bargains out there, with a list price of $ 500 including a lens (and it will be even less on Black Friday). While it doesn’t have Nikon’s latest and greatest technology, this compact DSLR has a reliable 24MP sensor that produces impressive-looking photos. See how it captured tropical Kauai and chilly Seattle in our sample gallery.

We got our hands on Tamron’s second-generation SP 15-30mm F2.8 a couple of months ago at Photokina, and we’ve just started shooting with a copy for Nikon mount. The lens sports a number of internal enhancements, such as the addition of a second processor so that autofocus and stabilization are each handled by their own chip. See how we’ve gotten along with the lens so far.

The Nikon Z6 is the lower-resolution, faster sibling to the Z7, and has already shown impressive results in our studio tests. This week we joined Nikon in Orlando, Florida for some shooting with the Z6 outside of the studio. Take a look at the results and keep your eyes peeled for more from the Z6 soon.

We’ve been seriously impressed with the Fujifilm X-T3: not only did it receive a gold award, it’s also our top pick in three buying guides. Since publishing our full review we’ve continued shooting with it – sometimes on assignment, and sometimes because we just like it so gosh darn much. Take a look through our freshly-updated X-T3 sample gallery.

The Hasselblad XCD 80mm F1.9 isn’t just the fastest lens for the medium-format system, it’s Hasselblad’s fastest lens ever. It provides a view equivalent to 63mm on full-frame, making it a solid candidate for portraiture. DPReview contributor Damien Demolder put it to work recently – take a look at the results.

Leica M10-D sample gallery

The Leica M10-D is an M-10 with no rear screen. From an image quality standpoint there’s no difference between the two, but we thought it’d be fun to shoot and process a series of images with the ‘D’ anyway.

iPhone XS / XS Max sample gallery updated

26 Oct

In the time since we posted our first look at the iPhone XS’ image quality, we’ve continued shooting with its larger sibling, the XS Max. The two devices use identical 12MP dual-camera systems, boasting better HDR and Portrait Mode effects thanks to processing and computational improvements. Take a look at some additional sample images from Apple’s latest flagship phone.

Google Pixel 3 XL sample gallery

19 Oct

$ (document).ready(function() { SampleGalleryV2({“containerId”:”embeddedSampleGallery_8660533092″,”galleryId”:”8660533092″,”isEmbeddedWidget”:true,”selectedImageIndex”:0,”isMobile”:false}) });

The Pixel 3 represents another step forward in computational photography for Google’s smartphone line. Introducing features like super-resolution digital zoom, a synthetic fill-flash effect and learning-based Portrait Mode improvements are just a few ways that the company is making the most of a single main camera. We’ve just started testing the Pixel 3 XL, but in the meantime take a look at some sample images.

We’ve included some Raw conversions and made Raws available for download where possible; however, please note that Raw support appears to be preliminary. Default conversions are very flat and require significant post-processing. We expect this to be remedied soon with proper profiles.
