The Nikkor 28mm f/1.4 was a legendary lens with stunning performance but was disappointingly discontinued. This new 24mm f/1.4 is somewhat taking its place as a fast wide-angle, but the question is – is it as good? We take the Nikon lens out to the Chinese University of Hong Kong to take some shots and find out what it’s like. Pricing Reference: www.digitalrev.com

Bestselling author Joe McNally (The Moment It Clicks and The Hotshoe Diaries) has written another accessible, entertaining book – Sketching Light: An Illustrated Tour of the Possibilities of Flash. In contrast to his earlier volumes, which were often rich with images and reminiscences from his storied editorial career, his latest book is more technical, covering methods for creating and shaping light using all manner of strobes. This is far from a prescriptive ‘how to’ guide though, says Adam Koplan.

Just posted: Sony Cyber-shot DSC-HX200V in-depth review. The second review expanded from Jeff Keller’s work at the Digital Camera Resource Page looks at Sony’s latest full-size superzoom camera. The Sony HX200V combines the company’s latest 18MP back-lit CMOS sensor with a 30x zoom lens giving a 27-810mm equivalent range. There’s image stabilization, as you’d expect for such a long zoom range and, as indicated by the ‘V’ in the model name, it also has built-in GPS.
