Travis Young Photography Presents : Garden City, Kansas

03 Aug

This is my representation of Garden City. It is personal, and holds photos that hit home to me and my life. Is it a reflection of all Garden? Of course not. Gettin’ some slack from someone about this so I thought I’d throw this little bit out there before any one else over reacts to the photos that I took during my short visit of Garden. —— This is my hometown of Garden City, KS. I went back home for the weekend and during my stay I went to the trailer park I grew up in and the areas that surrounded it, then ventured around and photographed things I felt relevant to my Garden City “experience.” I’m not out to make Garden City look “ghetto” or “hood,” because it really isnt, It can get dirty at times though and I just want to show the world things that people tend to overlook or ignore or maybe not even see. People have it hard and it’s amazing what conditions people live in. It really sucked when I found a home, the size of a small shack, using an actual padlock as their door lock. Anyway, this is my hometown. This is the place that I love. Garden City, Kansas. Proud. Facebook Lightbox vs Google+: which better presents your images?

12 Feb

Icon.jpg

Facebook is making its first steps towards taking photography seriously with the launch of its Lightbox display interface. The change, which is being rolled-out to users in the coming weeks, darkens the rest of the screen when a photo is selected and shows images in greater detail than before (up to 960 pixels in each dimension). How does this presentation compare to the more obviously photo-friendly Google+ service?

Play online turn-based chess at www.chessworld.net Topalov,V (2767) – Cheparinov,I (2696) [D90] 4th M-Tel Masters Sofia BUL (8), 16.05.2008

A sequence of video sequences shot in parallel with the TZ7,FZ38 and GH1 to give comparisons of image size and quality at either end of the zoom range. Shot under a variety of outdoor and indoor lighting conditions these sequences should give enough information to enable an informed opinion to be made about the various parameters of each of the cameras. In addition to the Panasonic Lumix camera sequences a parallel sequence shot with the nikon D5000 with standard kit lens are included. It is possible to make benchmark conclusions about the Nikon quality from this video. The opening sequence is shot with a Nikon D90 with f1.8 50mm lens set at f2.8 to give some opinion as to the D90 video quality with a prime lens. Hand held stabilisation shots are included at full zoom on each camera. Sequences were shot outdoors and indoors under tungsten and fluorescent lighting to compare AWB operation.

Remember, I’ll be making 3D videos from time to time, so it wouldn’t be a bad idea to invest in a decent pair of glasses. When it comes to anaglyph glasses, I give you these tips: * The more expensive, the better. You don’t want to be messing with flimsy, cardboard glasses, especially if you’ll want to use them again and again. I specifically recommend the Pro-Ana 3D glasses (.95). * If you don’t know which colors to get, get red/cyan. Whatever you do, don’t get a color combo that’s not either red/cyan, blue/amber, or green/magenta. Here’s the link to the anaglyph glasses: www.3dstereo.com As far as parallel viewers go, the Loreo Pixi is by far the best I’ve found, especially for computer viewing. Here’s the link to the Pixi: www.3dstereo.com If you already own 3D glasses, check this video to see how well they work: www.youtube.com Remember to leave a comment on THIS VIDEO when you’ve gotten your hands on some 3D glasses!

No Mas Presents: Dock Ellis & The LSD No-No by James Blagden

30 Jul

In celebration of the greatest athletic achievement by a man on a psychedelic journey, No Mas and artist James Blagden proudly present the animated tale of Dock Ellis’ legendary LSD no-hitter. In the past few years we’ve heard all too much about performance enhancing drugs from greenies to tetrahydrogestrinone, and not enough about performance inhibiting drugs. If our evaluation of the records of athletes like Mark McGwire, Roger Clemens, Marion Jones, and Barry Bonds needs to be revised downwards with an asterisk, we submit that that Dock Ellis record deserves a giant exclamation point. Of the 263 no-hitters ever thrown in the Big Leagues, we can only guess how many were aided by steroids, but we can say without question that only one was ever thrown on acid. Sadly, the great Dock Ellis died last December at 63. A year before, radio producers Donnell Alexander and Neille Ilel, had recorded an interview with Ellis in which the former Pirate right hander gave a moment by moment account of June 12, 1970, the day he no-hit the San Diego Padres. Alexander and Ilels original four minute piece appeared March 29, 2008 on NPRs Weekend America. When we stumbled across that piece this past June, Blagden and Isenberg were inspired to create a short animated film around the original audio. www.nomas-nyc.com buy Rufus Thomas (Do The) Push and Pull – Part I and II here: bit.ly
