Canon PowerShot SX60 HS real-world sample gallery posted

07 May

Canon’s flagship superzoom is its PowerShot SX60 HS, which sports a 21-1365mm equivalent lens – not quite Coolpix P900 territory but still very impressive. It also features a fully articulating LCD, Wi-Fi with NFC, and 1080/60p video. We’ve spent some time shooting with the SX60 and have put together a gallery of rusting trucks, sunsets, snowy owls and even snowier mountains. See gallery

Panasonic Lumix DMC-CM1 real-world sample gallery posted

25 Apr

Panasonic’s Lumix CM1 has the potential to break new ground in the territory between smartphones and cameras. It offers a 1-inch 20MP sensor, much larger than the typical smartphone camera chip. It also provides an F2.8 Leica-branded lens encircled by a control ring that can be used to adjust various exposure settings. We got out and about with it to see what its images look like. See gallery

Speed boost: Sony SLT-A77 II review posted

25 Apr

The Sony SLT-A77 II uses that company’s translucent mirror technology in combination with an AF system that Sony claims is dramatically improved over its predecessor. It boasts 12fps continuous shooting with AF, not to mention a 24MP sensor, built-in Wi-Fi with NFC, 2.4M dot OLED viewfinder and a tiliting/swiveling LCD. We put its impressive AF claims to the test. Read review

Lensbaby Velvet 56mm f/1.6 real-world sample gallery posted

12 Apr

The latest from Lensbaby, the Velvet 56mm f/1.6, is designed to bring soft, dream-like effects to portraiture. It also provides a minimum focus distance of 5 inches for macro work. It’s by no means cheap for what it offers at $ 499.95, but for some photographers will offer the ability to capture soft focus effects in-camera rather than through processing. We took the Velvet 56 out for a spin. See gallery

Sony FE 24-240mm f/3.5-6.3 OSS real-world samples posted

07 Apr

In theory, Sony’s FE 24-240mm f/3.5-6.3 OSS all-in-one zoom is an ideal candidate for travel photography with one of the company’s a7-series. The stabilized lens provides Sony’s full frame mirrorless cameras with a 10x zoom range, designed with five aspherical elements and one ED glass element. We put it to the test on landscapes, portraits, and lots of things in between. See gallery

Touch and go: Nikon D5500 review posted

03 Apr

Slightly smaller and lighter than its predecessor, the Nikon D5500 continues to offer a proven 24.2MP APS-C sensor in a body that’s more approachable than a D7000-series DSLR. It offers a fully articulated 3.2″ touchscreen, 1080/60p HD video, a new EXPEED 4 processor and built-in Wi-Fi. Can it compete in ever more crowded class? Read more

Nikon D7200 real-world samples gallery posted

01 Apr

The Nikon D7200 improves over its predecessor in one important way, offering a greatly improved buffer. Other improvements are more subtle, but more sensitive AF and an improved video specification make the D7200 a more capable camera than the model which came before it. We’ve had a D7200 for a few days, and wasted no time pairing it with Sigma’s excellent 18-35mm F1.8 A to get some real-world samples. Click through to see more

Can we get much wider? Canon EF 11-24mm F4 L USM samples gallery posted

19 Mar

Canon’s new EF 11-24mm F4 L wideangle zoom lens is Canon’s widest ever rectilinear zoom by some margin, and may even challenge Nikon’s venerable 14-24mm F2.8 as the tool of choice for landscape, property and architectural photographers. When a reviewable sample arrived in our office last week we wasted no time taking it out shooting. See gallery
