Colourful. A Photography Showcase. Part 2 of PLAY on Nikon D3x

19 Oct

…let there be colour… a series of works named “Play” by wahliao.com www.wahliao.com This video is dedicated to the people who work tirelessly in sunny Singapore. A tiny dot on the map, but a huge force to be reckoned with. We are who we are, and boy, it should be fun all the way. Let there be colour in your lives. =) This video, together with “Random” http is a collection of videos that showcase Singapore and its people. Photographed by lifestyle photographer Wong Kin Leong for wahliao.com/photography. This video is a collage shot on a Nikon camera system. A showcase of Singapore and its multi faceted life, as a metropolitan city rooted in its colonial history and an Asian jewel bursting with diversity and culture. The photos are themed to the amazing colour scheme that was meticulously developed by Kin Leong and processed to this stage of development. Carefully chosen to reflect Singapore in its myriad spectrums, the process involved deliberation on every 223 photos for its colours and thoughts and feel of the place. It starts off with the heartlands of Singapore, a neighbourhood of housing estates developed by HDB, and lunch occurs usually at a local eatery called “kopitiam”. A local affair costs SGD for a simple meal. Pretty decent food for a decent price. Then there’s the housing estate itself, in Bedok, Singapore. Organised into townships filled with blocks of flatted apartments with self sustaining facilities that includes sports, markets and commercial

Nikon D90 vs Canon 550D Durability Test (Part 1)*

30 Sep

People always question how tough the more basic level DSLRs are and treat them like delicate objects. But are they really tough enough to take the abuse that one might give it during daily life? Does a magnesium alloy body mean everything when it comes to “tough bodies”? We take these two DSLRs and put them through some extreme tests that you might possibly be able to relate to during your daily lives. Watch the video to see if they survive these rigorous tests. *As it turned out, the budget of this video was limited, so a 400D was used and Kai’s own Nikon D70.

MTBS-TV, Modern Stereoscopic 3D Gaming History, Part V

24 Sep

Would you believe that stereoscopic 3D gaming on console started out with foot in mouth disease? Learn how things REALLY got started, and how a slip of the tongue could very well have launched the industry as we know it. This video talks about everyone include Blitz Games Studios, Epic Games, Sony, Xbox, and more. Visit www.mtbs3d.com and http to learn more about stereoscopic 3D gaming. Visit www.mtbs3D.com for a list of compatible 3D games.

This clip was shot to illustrate the effect that most people associate with 3D – negative parallax – that of an object or person reaching out beyond the screen. You’ll forgive my rather intense look – I’m concentrating on the video camera feedback monitor to make sure the grabber doesn’t reach outside the frame. You’ll notice it does though – watch how this spoils the illusion momentarily as the grabber breaks the stereoscopic window. We’ll be showing you how to carefully produce this astonishing effect for yourselves very soon. In the meantime our demo clips are of this sequence so have a go for yourself at setting the screen depth and seeing how this varies the effectiveness of the grabber.

Nikon Monarch ATB: Reference Value Binos, Part 1

13 Sep

PART 1 of 3: Excellent quality binoculars are indispensable for many activities to include tactical operations, general recreation, watching sporting events, wildlife watching, and hunting. In this three part video series, I take an in-depth look at features, terminology (simplified), and specifications that will make a difference in the performance of your selected binos. My current reference standard for high value and yet super high quality medium-format binos are the excellent “Nikon Monarch ATB” series. These Monarch 8×42 and 10×42 binos compare very favorably against MUCH more expensive binoculars and they are generally THE class leader against all comers in terms of weight at a very light 21.5 oz (subject to change). These Nikons are some of the most popular binos in the world today and have amassed an impressive track record of dependable performance and they have many fans the world over. They offer an incredible quality level and set of features for around 0: high quality and precision-ground Eco glass, phase-corrected and fully multi-coated optics, tough quality construction with useful rubber armor, total waterproofness, extendable eyecups that stay in place, a stiff hinge to maintain alignment, outstanding optical resistance to light flare-ups (from night urban lighting), an incredible 25 year generous replacement warranty, and they are offered in some great colors (black, tan and green camo patterns). A minor downside are lens covers that don’t fit tight
