Meizu unveils the 15 Plus smartphone with stabilized tele-camera

24 Apr

Chinese smartphone manufacturer Meizu has launched a new high-end model, the Meizu 15 Plus. And based on specs alone, the 15 Plus could be well-worth a closer look for mobile photographers who are open to the idea of buying from a less established brand.

In the camera department, a 12MP 1/2.3″ main sensor is combined with a 20MP secondary camera that features a 2x zoom factor. On the main camera, light is captured through a F1.8 lens while the tele-lens has to make do with a slower F2.8 aperture. Both lenses are equipped with optical image stabilization, though.

As with most similar systems, the optical zoom is enhanced with computational methods and Meizu promises a 3x “lossless” zoom, and the cameras features multi-frame noise reduction and HDR as well. To view and edit those images, the phone is equipped with a 5.95-inch AMOLED screen with QHD resolution and a notch-less 16:9 aspect ratio.

In the processing department, the Meizu deploys the Exynos 8895 chipset from last year’s Samsung flagship models, and users can choose between 64 or 128GB storage—unfortunately, there is no expansion slot. All components are housed in a body made of a stainless steel aluminum composite material.

The Meizu 15 Plus costs CNY 3,000 (approximately US$ 475) for the 64GB version and CNY 3,300 (approximately US$ 525) for the 128GB model. This sounds like a very decent deal for a tele-camera equipped device with high-end specs, but unfortunately, no pricing information for outside China has been provided as of yet.

Meizu Pro 7 Plus comes with dual-cam and dual-screens

28 Jul

Chinese manufacturer Meizu has released its latest flagship smartphone and the Pro 7 Plus is quite a remarkable device in a number of ways. Like most recent high-end devices it comes with a dual-camera on the back. However it also offers a secondary AMOLED display on the back as a standout-feature. It can be used for music playback, date and weather-related information, or as viewfinder when taking selfies with the rear cameras.

In addition the Pro 7 Plus is also the first device to be powered by MediaTek’s new Helio X30 10nm chipset with 10 cores in three clusters. There are also 6GB of RAM, 64GB and 128GB storage options a 3500mAh battery and a 16MP front camera. Images can be viewed on a large 5.7″ QHD AMOLED display.

In the dual-camera the Meizu uses a very similar configuration to the Motorola Moto Z2 Force Edition that was announced two days ago. Two 12MP 1/2.9″ Sony IMX368 sensors with 1.25 µm pixel size, one RGB and one monochrome, are combined for depth-effects and improved image quality. The lenses come with F2.0 apertures and phase detection AF is on board as well.

If you think the Pro 7 Plus might be too large for your liking, there is also the standard Pro 7 with a smaller 5.2″Full HD panel and less powerful MediaTek Helio P25 chipset. The camera setup is the same as on the Pro model though. No information on pricing and availability has been provided yet.

Meizu Pro 6 Plus features 12MP Sony sensor and LED ring flash

01 Dec

Chinese smartphone maker Meizu has today unveiled the Pro 6 Plus, a high-end model with metal housing and large 5.7″ pressure-sensitive AMOLED screen with Quad-HD resolution. The Sony Exmor IMX386 sensor in the camera module has been deployed in some previous Meizu models but at 1/2.9″ and a pixel-pitch of 1.25µm it is a touch smaller than the 12MP Sony chips used in some of the other current high-end devices.

The camera also features optical image stabilization, a lens with F2.0 aperture and laser-assisted autofocus. The front-facing camera is surrounded by 10 dual-tone LEDs forming a ring flash, and comes with a 5MP sensor and F2.0 lens.

The Android OS is powered by the same Exynos 8890 chipset that can be found in the Samsung Galaxy S7 and 4GB of RAM. Buyers can choose between 64 and 128GB storage versions.
